I am going to be at WDW for the 4th of July. I tried to book either BWV or BCV for the night of the 4th with no luck. I am waitlisted for both until the week before.
I am booked right now at SSR but I have been at Epcot in the past for the 4th and stayed at OKW. It took me over 3 hours to make the drive home, the roads were blocked, or cars were diverted in such an odd way that there was no direct route home.
So could someone cancel their studio for me so I can stay near Epcot??? lol just joking, Please cross your fingers for me. I have been calling once a week just to see if there is something available because I have read of others who called and got what they wanted with some persistance.
Otherwise I think I will just take the bus to the park and hang at the store for an hour or so until traffic slows a bit.

I would start calling daily. I did that last summer (not for the 4th) and there were times were a night showed up that wasn't available in a previous call.

I needed two nights and was calling for resorts I couldn't wait list since I already had two in place.

But, one of the nights that randomly showed up was a BWV room at the Boardwalk so you just never know!

Good luck with the waitlist - my last two did not come through but it wasn' t important enough for me to call every day - just wanted to try Kidani for one (Oct 2009) and THV for Christmas 2009. If it doesn't happen I think your plan to take the bus is the best and then you can just take it easy when leaving the park after a trip through the stores or a stop for a last minute people watching opportunity with a snack or beverage in hand. Have a great trip.

Wow, you guys have the power. Whoever crossed their fingers for me thanks...
I checked on line today and BWV came through. I will be staying at BWV. Yeah, now I can have 2 margaritas and not have to worry about driving back to SSR.
Look for me, I will be seated right in front of the Margarita booth, next to the fence. I plan on grabbing my spot at around 6 pm, sit down with some nachos and a margarita and a good book.

I was about to post some pixie dust for you, but I guess I can send congrats instead! :cool1:

Care to share your traffic headaches from the prior 4th of July?

We too are staying at the Boardwalk on July 4th with dinner reservations at Narcoosee's to watch the MK fireworks.

We'll have our own car and thought this would be better than trying to catch a bus over at MK with the huge crowds.

Any tips for trying to get ahead of the traffic or best routes to go?

Thanks and enjoy your stay!

I'm no expert at WDW (yet), but that's what we do here in our town when we go to the festivities for the 4th. You wouldn't catch us in our car trying to deal with that mess unless you paid us closing in on a million dollars! (OK that's a serious exaggeration...thinking about it, I'd deal with the mess for far less than that...but the point is, driving on the 4th is horrid just in a town the size of Tacoma WA (which is actually smaller, it seems than the property of WDW, and I can't imagine it's any better at WDW).

So taking the bus would definitely be what I would do, if I were there for that date.

How about the monorail from EPCOT - that is if you are doing a park day that day or have an AP. Then switch to the resort monorail to get there and maybe take the bus back to BW afterwards from MK. I guess I just don't do the driving bit at all except to grocery stores and water parks if I can help it. The traffic is just not worth the aggravation when I can let Disney do the driving. Did it a few times years ago when we stayed off site and sat in the MK parking lot longer than it has ever taken to get back to a resort by bus.

I'm glad you got BWV. We'll be walking back to BCV after the Epcot's fireworks on the 4th!

Bobbi:goodvibes

If you have dinner at Narcossees I would watch the fireworks then sit in the lobby of the resort for at least an hour. Bring a book or magazine, everything will be closed so you can't even shop. Then try and get back to your resort.
I wouldn't take the monorail, remember, MK is the busiest of the parks on the 4th. They always close by around 11 AM and don't allow anyone else into the park. the amount of people who are going to be getting on the monorail from there will be unbelievable. I bet they will be backed up for at least 2 hours after the park closes. I also wouldn't take the monorail back to Epcot because they will be closing Epcot after the fireworks and won't let you in to walk through to get to your resort.
If you won't be driving take a monorail from GF to the MK, then get on a bus to your resort. The buses run 2-3 hours after the park closes so you will get on a bus but wait for the crowds to die down at least 1-2 hours after the fireworks.
Or if you wait and don't want to take a bus but don't have your car ask the consierge desk to call a cab for you. It might cost more because of the traffic, but if you wait the 2 hours traffic should be somewhat better.
When I was there 2 years ago we parked at the main lot in Epcot. We left onto the main road. From there we took the DTD exit. They wouldn't let us take the left onto the service road that leads right into OKW, we had to go straight to the main road that DTD is on. Then we had to take a right and circle on that road back onto the road we were just on, then over to MK area, then the back road where we passed Port Orleans on our left, then to OKW. What is normally a 15 min drive from Epcot to OKW was turned into a 2 hour drive. And the traffic was at a standstill, most of the time we were stopped, but when we did get to move I don't think we went over 2 MPH. then of course there are those who are in one lane and want to cut in front of you because your lane is going .005 MPH faster than his...
they have security and sherrifs at every corner and light to direct traffic. They have their route down so they know exactly how to get you to your resort in the longest time. I couldnt' understand why they closed the service road but who am I to ask...
I just didn't want to deal with that, so I am thrilled that the waitlist came through. BWV is not my favorite, but I will take the long walk down to corridor anyday over the drive to nowhere.
