I am 7 months pregnant and due beginning of July. We are considering taking a trip to WDW in mid Sept during the free dining. Has anyone taken a baby this young. We also have a 7 year old and a 3yr old. I am most concerned about the heat at time of year with a baby so little.

Any thoughts?

I went a couple of years ago with a five month old at the same time your thinking of and it was fine. I just made sure she had enough fluids and was dressed in appropriate clothing. Sometimes if she was in the buggy and shaded, I stripped her down to her nappy and she loved it.

You'll be fine.

We went in december with a 2 month old, we have also been in september (but she was 2 then). I think you guys will be fine, taking a 2 month old was EASY! She slept through it all, was so portable, we straped her either in the sling, or bjorn and off we went (our other two at the time were almost 2, and almost 3). If you get hot, go to the baby care center, we did not use them when the baby was tiny, just never needed to. But the last time we were there, last september, my girls were just 5, just 4, and just 2 and we stopped by the baby care center. We had one really hot day, and we had not even gotten to the parks until 12, and by one, we were hot, really hot, so we hopped in there, cooled down, drank some water, changed the babies diaper, and sat and cooled down for about 30 minutes. So remember abou the baby care centers, but I think you would be fine, we loved it. She was easy at 8 weeks!
Good luck!

We have taken both our kids at 2 mos & loved it at that age. Once with a 18 mos old & a 2 mos old. It wasn't that big of a deal. So much of the park attractions are air conditioned. The only time I remember being annoyed at all was while I was waiting for my party to ride Spalsh Mountain the only shaded benches were in the smoking section or underneath with the playground which was a bit noisy for a baby who is nursing (plus a bit public for me!) That was 5 yrs ago so there may not be a smoking section of WDW, not sure.

If you'll be nursing, I found it quite lovely as I had to take lots of breaks with the baby- sitting in cool areas. It was a completely different experience & I relish it. I'm taking a 6 month old this September & am looking forward to seeing Disney from shady benches & air conditioned spots. I had the most amazing conversations with the most delightful people from all around the world. It'll be great!

We went down one year in mid-june with my DD - we arrived the day she turned 3months - so not much older and just as hot - if not hotter- depending on when in Sept. you may go.

It was a great trip - we used a rayshade on the stroller and a clip on stroller fan from one step ahead for better ventilation in the stroller - she did fine.

She was our first - so our only child at the time - but I'm not sure if that made it easier or harder, as it was also our first time not travelling as "two adults" :-)

I think the age of the baby would be fine and easy, but I dont think I would want to take a baby that young in the FL heat. We will be going in Jan. when our baby will be 3 1/2 mos old but we wont have to deal with the heat issue. On our trip in 1999 our youngest was 10 mos and we went in Sept/Oct and it was blazing hot. I said never again. Our DD looked like she had just come out of the bathtub most of the time. Drippin wet with sweat!!

I hate posting negative stuff :) But, I felt so bad for all the babies that I saw there last year...They were SO miserable. It was VERY hot and when you are in that environment all day, it can be too much for the kids. My son was 2 yrs. and 4 mos. and even he was miserable b/c of the heat; which made him quite the handful :scared: If you do decide to go, make sure that you plan plenty of breaks and midday trips to the hotel room :) Like I said, I hate being negative (I would never ever want to dissuade someone from going to Disney!) but I almost cried a few times seeing some of those poor kids. We saw several tiny babies that were bright pink from the heat at 10 at night and the poor moms could not get them to stop crying. :sad1: Anyways, that's just something I remember from last year. I only wanted to mention it so you could plan for it :) Good Luck!

We took DS at 3 months in Oct. It was still quite hot (80s+) DS did amazingly well in the heat but we also spent lots of time in the a/c and didn't rush or bush ourselves. I can see what Princess Michelle is saying but just use common sense. We kept DS well shaded and he never seemed uncomfortable. There is always somewhere to pop inside and cool off.

We've taken all three of our DDs at about 8 weeks near the end of September/beginning of October. We had a blast. Be sure to utilize the Baby Care Centers in the parks -- they're a nice, quiet respite from the park craziness. Also be sure to take cues from your baby. If he/she is cranky, perhaps a rest day would be better than spending the whole day at the parks. As long as you're willing to be flexible, you should have a great trip.

Be sure to bring a sunhat/shade for the baby as you're not supposed to put sunscreen on a baby so young.

We're also planning a trip to WDW in September with an infant, but ours will be about 4 weeks when we go. The one thing we're doing differently for the trip is we're driving instead of flying. It seems that one of us (or all of us) gets sick after flying because of all of the recycled air. I don't want to chance that with a baby so young.

We'll also have our baby sling, which I found to be a lifesaver on our last trips. It helps to keep the baby close and "well-meaning" strangers away from the baby.

Congratulations on your upcoming addition and have a great trip!!!!!

I think you would be fine but if it were me I would push it off 2 mos and go when it's cooler. There is such wonderful weather in November. No free dining but no extreme heat either. I live in Texas so I know exactly what it's like in September and it's really hot.

Going out on a limb here...

I am taking my little one on Saturday when he is 5 weeks old. We are going again next week with my sister and then again on Mother's day.

Essentially since we can do day trips--I am monitoring the weather and making plans accordingly. B/c it will be warm, we are opting for EPCOT on Saturday b/c there is much more opportunity to stay indoors and most attractions have their queue area inside.

If it gets too hot for our liking--I plan on just Living with the Land for many boatrides while hubby and the girls prance around. I was itching to go--so this is just what we will be doing.

I will be "wearing" my son in a baby carrier--hopefully they arrive tomorrow as I paid for quick shipping. I do have a Moby Wrap which I will use--but it is a dark color and a warmer fabric and I don't want him to overheat. Since we are nursing--I am able to feed him while we walk around so he can essentially drink according to his hunger or thirst.

I am thinking of getting a fan to attach to the stroller...but I have no idea where to buy one of these.:confused3

September can be rather humid--so just know that "your" part of the vacation might be somewhat modified in order to make sure your baby isn't overheating as the biggest concern is that they cannot regulate their body temp (with another big concern of sun exposure--but that is easy to take care of).

My thought is that we as a family can handle it b/c this is the environment we live in. We aren't pushing ourselves to do Disney come heck or high water--we can take it at an easy pace and we can tell when the weather is getting too much.

Families from much less humid and cooler climates, might find adjusting a bit more difficult and since the travel is planned well in advance..it is impossible to know exactly how the weather will be until you are actually here.

We will be avoiding animal kingdom until he is older and we are back into cooler weather....b/c often even on a deceptively beautiful day of low humidity--I personally find AK to be the "hottest" park (temp wise) at Disney...and they do NOT have much indoor venues. So we won't be going to that until the fall unless a cold front appears and it is a lovely day in the 70s or cooler anytime soon.

MGM--wait areas for shows are outdoors...so for now, we are nixing that as well (though we are going on Mother's Day b/c of the new Playhouse Disney Character Buffet).

Good luck!!

Thought I would post my "report" of how it went on Saturday.

It was a warm day but started off cool (as in not hot...I was fine in shorts and a t-shirt).

I utilized my Moby Wrap most of the day. We had our stroller there as our "push cart" as well as a backup for my 4.5 year old when she zonked out at the end of the day.

Baby was fine most of the day in the Moby...didn't seem to be bothered by teh heat when we were in it. He is prone to heat rash and portions of his rash at birth haven't gone away yet....he did flare up just like he does at home, but I had his Burt's Bee's Baby powder and made sure to put some on when needed.

I did not utilize the baby care station at EPCOT--so no idea how that is. We were able to walk and nurse in the Moby. I had brought along my Mei Tai to try that out--I nursed for a bit in that..but just didn't have the proper positioning for upright nursing since my son is still small and doesn't have muscle control yet. So that hurt my back. Did a quick switch to the Moby and all was fine.

Truth be told my legs and feet were achy by the end of the day. I had just ordered Crocs and hadn't gotten them yet and my usual shoe of choice had broken (skecher's flip flops purchased with the wonderful sale codes posted on the budget boards). So I was in my Gap Birkenstock wannabes. Was fine for about half the day and then :scared1: .

By the end of the day being on my feet for 9 hours with Baby and not resting did take its toll..but it was in much more pain and achiness when still pregnant with him at 7-8 months when at EPCOT..so this was a VAST improvement.

We did spend much of the day in teh Land (worked out to about 4 or 5 hours between baby swaps and having lunch).

We did see on the Boatride in Mexico a family with a newborn and they had me beat. There newborn was 2.5 weeks old and was sleeping peacefully in his car seat. Mom and dad brought him along with the grandparents. Very cute family, though I don't know if they were there all day as mom looked GREAT!!! (as in didn't look like she had spent 7 hours at EPCOT).

It was all quite doable.

I've now gotta figure a way to repack the diaperbag as we had wayyy too much stuff. But we just didn't want to be caught unprepared.

I did by a UV cover or the stroller by Kidpottamus (or something like that). It provided added shade on teh stroller as well as blocking 98 or 99% of the UV rays.

I personally don't think it was that humid yesterday....so of course the feel will be different when it is. But we must have felt great b/c we uninentionally did quite a bit.

Glad you guys had fun and your baby did well. I have wimpy feet and I have to wear my tennis shoes/sneakers when I am on my feet for a long time. When I am babywearing and am on my feet for a long time, it's 100% essential. I cannot wear flips or any other type of shoe or my feet will hurt. Too bad b/c tennis shoes get so hot.

Honestly, I don't know. We did Great Adventure in June when my son was just about 3 months old. It was HOT and we were MISERABLE. He was stripped down to his diaper, my mom spent the entire day in a/c restaurants with him, I tried to nurse him lots but had trouble keeping myself hydrated enough to nurse normal much less extra! I don't know if it was because we were so unprepared for it being a miserable experience (it wasn't supposed to be that hot that day) or what, but it definitely turned me off taking a wee baby to a theme park in the summer. (That being said, at 6 months in September he did fine in DL...and 18 months...and 20 in December at WDW!)

I hate to be negative, too, but I think September is too hot for a young baby. I know the others said that they were fine, but you just never know. Plus October can be quite different from September- those few degrees and the higher humidity in September make a huge difference.

We live in Southwest Florida and when we had young babies in the summer we did very little outside. Just going to the car makes them very sweaty.

I think that if you absolutely must go, I would do 90-95% of your things in the a/c and avoid walking around a lot outside. KWIM?

Sorry to have a negative answer, but I think it's better to know.

We are going this weekend and my son will be almost 4 weeks old. We live in Florida and already have done the zoo and he was a dream there, kept him in the stroller in a onsie and he had no problems at all.

I do want to get an attatchable umbrella and fan for the stroller before I go. Anyone have any idea where I can find these? Babiesrus?

This will be our first time with FOUR kids in WDW, wish us luck, lol.

I couldn't find any fans but I didn't try looking that hard.

They did sell stroller "mickey" fans at WDW. We saw them in Mousegears and I believe I saw them in one other place at EPCOT. I'm sure they sell them other places too. The mickey hand is what clips to the stroller. I didn't buy it as I was wearing my son..but it was only about $17 and included the batteries. I may purchase it at a later date when DS is more inclined to want to ride in the stroller.

I bought the sun shade recommended earlier in the thread...it shaded the stroller quite nicely and blocks out the UV rays.

How do you feel about trying a pair of crocs?

Me too

My baby will be born on July 27Th and we will arrive at ASMU on 9/16 for 8nts I spoke to my pediatrician about this before booking the trip and he said it was fine to go anytime after 2 weeks old. just make sure I took care to make sure baby stayed hydrated. We will be celebrating dd's 5th bday.

I agree on looking for slings with either solarweave or solarveil.

A couple of good sources are:

Zolo slings (they have both pouches and ringslings)

Hotslings pouches. I used one of these last year at Disney. Just a caution. I normally wear a size 5 Hotsling, but have a size 4 solarweave. They stretch more and seem to wear bigger.

Sleeping baby productions ring slings.

There are others at thebabywearer.

I'm not sure about bringing a 2month old to Disney in Sept.

I agree with several others that it may be more enjoyable to wait a couple of months. Babies that age have a harder time regulating there body temp. I saw a couple there last Sept that were about that age, and I felt so bad for them. It's just too hot.

Good luck either way.
