We will be traveling with a 6 (just shy of 7), 4 and 1 year old.
Obviously the the 1yo will eat off of our plates but what is best for the other two?
We will not be doing a dining plan and will primarily eat QS.
At home if we get McDonald's the oldest will eat the entire happy meal and the 4 year old will eat about half maybe more. So according to that portion size should we buy 2 kids meals or split an adult for them?
If splitting an adult meal what are the best places in each park for this portion wise?

Just looking at menus I can't imagine them wanting nuggets and mac n cheese every meal.....and they won't even touch an uncrustable!

My kids have never been big into the typical kids meals, so we always do a lot of the buffets at Disney. They still pay the kid price but can eat anything they want off the buffet. My kids love Chef Mickey's, Tusker House, Akershus (breakfast) and we do H&V for my younger to see the Disney Jr gang.

We aren't big into buffets but do plan on doing a few bigger meals.
I am wondering more on the counter service options since I know pulling my kids to a big meal every day will make for a stressful experience.

If they both want to eat the same thing, you'll get better selections with them splitting an adult meal, it should be enough food. My kids were 7 and 4 last trip and sometimes I'd get them their own kids meal and sometimes they'd split an adult meal. Both ways was enough food.

Depends on the QS. When we're not on the dining plan and do mostly QS, I will share 2 kids meals with my 4 and 1yo. The kids meals come with milk and other things like applesauce, carrot sticks, etc. Those are usually not in the adult meals. Then you have ones like the power packs which have yogurt.

I second this - depends on the place. There were times where we ordered an adult meal for DS and then he was disappointed because he didn't get the typical "sides" for kids meals. Also it makes it tricky if they won't eat the same thing. We were a family of 5 (kids are 8, 6 & 4) and 2 adult, 2 kids meals were enough for us. Other times, it was too much work trying to coordinate splitting and the kids each got a kids meal - they would finish those no problem but then again, my 4 yo will finish a McDonalds kids meal at home.

But this is the best thing about quick service meals. You get to your place of choice, you read off the menu selections to your kids (ALL the selections), you let your kids decide what they want. Then, you move forward and order and take the selections back to your table of choice. The kids dive into to either the adult meal to split or their kids meals. Oops - the almost seven year old was supposed to share but ended up eating most of that adult meal so your four year old is still hungry. Very easy to get up and get something else for that child.

Remember that each child meal comes with two sides (fries are available but usually not listed on the menu but instead as "as requested") and a drink. Also, almost all sides listed on quick service menus are available to purchase separately. Like when my husband and I share a meal. He wants fries, I want the fruit so we order the adult meal with fries and a side of the fruit. Pleases both of us.

Quick service meals are so easy to do on the fly. Order what you want and things can be mixed and matched as you desire. Kids or adults.

Personally, we find the selections lacking for choices at QS for children. However, strictly speaking of portion size: Disney has much smaller portion sizes for children tha typical fast food eateries. I believe it is two fold, they are trying to control cost and meet certain nutritional guidelines so they can claim the meals are somewhat healthy.

IMO, I don't know how any child eats the nuggets at Disney to me they look awful. At least the adult nuggets appear to be better. My guess is the adult nugget meal is larger than two of the kids meals.

Last trip we didn't have DDP so my two youngest split adult QS meals much of the time. Or, if they disagreed, I would just let them order their own adult meals and I grazed off theirs (I am not a very picky eater so it worked fine for me. Ymmv).

I shared CS with 8 yr.old DD on our last trip. We would split a sandwich & fries & order an extra drink. It worked well for us. I think it would be plenty for two children to share an adult meal.
