2 Job Interviews - Question please

I have applied for two part time secretary positions and have one interview tomorrow at 1:00 and another interview Tues. at 5:00. Both of these are with the local school district. Competition is fierce so I probably won't get offered either one but this is a "just in case" question.

What if tomorrow I get offered the job before having the interview the following day? Or what if I get offered the first job before they have made a decision on the 2nd one?

The 2nd interview/job has a better location and 5 hrs. a day compared to 3 at the other one. But the 2nd job is at the jr. high, which can be quite hectic and crazy. The other job is at a testing office and would be much calmer and quieter (I would imagine).

Like I said I probably won't get offered either because I think they have something like 100 applicants but is it rude to say you have another interview before making a decision? I just want to be prepared in case it happens.

Thanks!

Liz, I don't have any suggestions for you (I HATE job interviews!) but wanted to wish you the best and hope you get the one you want. I find that things usually work out for the best - sometimes when a door closes, a window opens up elsewhere. Good luck anyway.

I wouldn't mention the other interview. But you should be under no obligation to accept the job right then and there. If they do offer during the interview or before the next day, thank them and tell them you will call them with your answer this week. That should give you time to feel the other job out.

Not sure what I would do, either. However, I wanted to say GOOD LUCK!!! Let them know you accept the job and will be glad to get paid $50/hour. LOL

Good Luck!!and if they offered it to ya, just tell them you'd have to think about/have to discuss it with SO and then wait to see how the other interview goes....:)

Liz, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, that you get to choose between both jobs! :) :)

If you're offered the job at Interview #1, before you know about the outcome of Interview #2, just tell them that you are considering several options, and ask what is their deadline for letting them know your decision.

At both interviews, it would be perfectly appropriate to ask when they will be making their final decisions. Not an exact day, necessarily, but at least a general window of time.

Good luck!!!

Crossing my fingers for you! I know that either one would work out with your situation and I personally think they should start a bidding war for you.;)

If they do offer on the first one in the interview then I would mention the other interview and say you like the job but can't fully commit until you have spoken to hubby and taken the other interview. Do it with that great tact you have and you'll be fine. Good luck and I hope you get it!

When is the next Utah DIS meet?

We finally got our lawn in on Saturday. It looks so pretty.

You've been given some good advice and I'll just add some of my own.

It is perfectly acceptable to say you need a day or two to think about it and discuss it with family etc.

Also I have always found that when I went on interviews that by the time I came out I knew if it was a good fit for me. I remember 6 years ago when I was looking and I walked out of one place saying to myself - please don't call (because I liked the people but didn't want the job). Of course they called and I had to turn them down.

Thanks for all the great advice!!! I hope things go well but if I don't get offered either job then I just have to know it was probably for the best.

I have good typing skills (my certified type test submitted with the applications were 94 wpm with 1 error), and I know how to use the Internet (obviously!!), but doing a bunch of fancy stuff with the computer I'm weak at, so I worry that that will hinder my chances. Last time I worked as a secretary we were still using IBM Selectrics!

(Hi Shelly! Definitely another Utah meet!! Glad to hear your lawn is in and looking great!!!!)

First interview is over. The good news is I think it went really well. The bad news is the hours are 1:00 - 4:00 PM and they are non-negotiable. I was hoping for something in the morning while the kids are at school.

The person doing the interview said they got 17 applicants and she was interviewing 4. So that made me feel good that I was one of the 4. She asked if I had a problem with the hours and I said no, but my brain was screaming YES, YES!! My kids get out of school at 2:30 and even though they are in high school I don't think my daughter can walk home every day due to her health problems, especially when winter will be here before we know it.

I didn't want to say right during the interview that the hours were unacceptable because I wanted some time to think about it and figure out if there was any way to make it work. But tomorrow morning I think I should call and remove my name from consideration for that position and hope the job at the jr. high works out.
