:teacher: Buying into DVC through resale, is it possible to have 2 home resorts? For example 100 points at VWL and another seperate purchase of 100 points at OKW. Yes, I'm attempting to hedge my bets and be able to reserve at either of these properties 11 months in advance.

Secondly, I'm aware that you do not need to be in possession of all of the points needed at the time of reservation. But, could I book a 200 point stay at VWL using the 100 pts I'd have there and add-on the 100 pts of OKW? Or, do I need to rent VWL points to make up the difference?

Thanks again.

Okay...Yes you can have 2 home resorts with 100 pts at each but...you will only have the 11month advantage at each resort with the points you own at each.

Meaning that you cannot make a ressie 11months out at either will all 200pts unless you are banking and borrowing (which can make it possible). You could book the 100pts you own at say VWL at 11months out but if you need those extra 100pts from OKW you'll need to wait until you hit the 7month mark to use the OKW pts for VWL.

HTH's

Forgive me, I'm a newbie and probably quite dense, but to make sure I understand:

I can make the VWL reservation 11 months out ONLY for the points I have in my account (on hand, banked or borrowed). I can't book for any extra nights over the points in my account at that time?

If I'm using OKW 100 points, I'd have to wait until the 7 month point and book an "add-on reservation using those points?

When can you book using "transferred", i.e. rented points from another DVC member (and do they have to be tied into the specific resort, in this case VWL?).

Sorry to be so specific, but I'm trying to purchase exactly what I want/need so I'm not back on the board bad-mouthing DVC in the future due to my own poor choice.

Yes, exactly. In order to use those points from a different resort (in this case OKW) you'd need to wait until 7months out to book the OKW points at VWL. With banking and borrowing though, you could essentially use up to 300 pts at the 11month window if you booked every 3 yrs (if you wanted to;) )

Yes...they could either book the extra nights at that point and "link" them to your existing ressie or cancel your existing ressie and rebook using all points from both resorts for a new ressie (you'd only rebook of course assumming there was availibility to do so at this point).

Not sure actually....I'm sure someone who knows better than I will come along and clarify though. Not sure if the transferred pts become part of your home resort window or if they keep their home resort status :scratchin That's a good question.

And don't be sorry! Much better to find out ahead of time. That's what these boards are for. Best of luck!:)

Yes, but I would amend your statement above to read "ONLY for points I have in my account on the check-in date."

If you have a June Use Year and want to book a December stay at your Home resort, you can call and reserve the room as early as January (11 mos from check-out.) Even though the points are not coming until June, you can still book in January. They key is that the points will be accessible when December arrives.

To complicate things just a bit, let's say that your December stay will actually take 120 points and you only receive 100 in June. The 20 points can be borrowed from the next Use Year. However the borrowing occurs at the time the reservation is made. So, booking that December '05 stay will use all of your '05 points and twenty of your '06 points, the '06 points are moved into the '05 Use Year when you make the reservation. If you have to cancel later, the '06 points STAY in the '05 Use Year and cannot be banked.

If I'm using OKW 100 points, I'd have to wait until the 7 month point and book an "add-on reservation using those points?

Correct.

Note that in the prior response I walked you through a borrowing example. If your intention is to alternate stays between OKW and VWL, you can use banking and borrowing to your advantage to book at 11 mos.

Example:

2005 want to stay at VWL. Use 2005 VWL points and borrow from 2006 to give yourself 200 total points. 2005 OKW points are banked into '06.

2006 want to stay at OKW. Use 2005 banked points and 2006 current year points. VWL points have already been used.

When can you book using "transferred", i.e. rented points from another DVC member (and do they have to be tied into the specific resort, in this case VWL?).

Points transferred from another member retain their original Use Year. If you want to book VWL at 11 mos, you need to rent VWL points.

You certainly can. We have an OKW contract from 1994 and added VB several years ago. We wanted the 11 month window to book the cottage at VB. Since there are only 6 of them, we needed to add there. We go there about every other year for a few day after our OKW visit. The only thing is to try and get the same UY. It is really hard to keep up with a different one. The 11 month window makes a big difference when you want a particular accommodations-GV or cottages. Just remember to let member services know when you are doing something special with your points-using a certain contract instead of another. We booked at 7 months a night at OKW using our VB points. They tried to use our OKW until I told them to use my VB ones. At 7 month, you can use either for a booking at either location. Hope all this good advice here has helped.
