hi all!

dh and i just bought 200 pts at BCV! :cool1: we also own 200 pts at SSR. we will be sending in our final payment today!

the UY for SSR is june and the new UY for BCV is august.

let's say i want to stay at BCV in a one bedroom for a week and it costs 223 points. at my 11 month window i can book that one bedroom but i only have 200 points. do i then borrow 23 pts from the next year's BCV points? then, at the 7 month window when my SSR points would be eligible to use to book at BCV, can i un-borrow the BCV points and use 23 SSR points from this year to book that one bedroom at BCV?

does that make sense? how does that work?

TIA for the help! can't wait to start planning all of our upcoming trips!

Banking and borrowing are final transactions. You may just want to reserve one less day then at 7 months try to add or just borrow the 23 points and do nothing at 7 months.

You could also add at day at SSR and then try and move it to BWV when the 7th month window rolls around.

No matter how you try to think of a way there is no way to accomplish being able to use both sets of points for a reservation made 11 months out at one resort. BCV points can be used only at BCV at 11 months out and SSR points can be used only at SSR 11 months out and at 7 months you cannot undo any borrowing so you can change points as borrowing is a final transcation. In fact, you cannot take any SSR points and put them in that BCV reservation for BCV points. Even if the points were the same use year you could do it if, and only if, what you reserved at 11 months out, is sepoarately availalbe at 7 months out. In your case it is necessarily impossible because you have two use years. That means there is no way you can mix the points to reserve any single night. The only ways you can use both sets of points for a single vacation is to transfer points from one contract to another (allowed only once per use year) or reserve some nights with the BCV points, the remaining nights with the SSR points and then link the reservation. Eiother way, using SSR points for BCV nights will be allowed only at 7 months out and no switches for points used at 11 months out will be allowed.

i think i understand. in this particular case then, what would you do if you wanted a vacation that "cost" more points than you have on one contract?

If you want to make that reservation 11 months out, your only sure option is to borrow points. Your other option has significant risk of not succeeding: reserve some of the nights you want at 11 months out and then hope to get the rest at 7 months out. That strategy usually has a better chance of succeeding if the nights you need to get at 7 months out are weekend nights.

Either just borrow them or see if DVC has one night with a discount with cash. You could always cancel the cash room if a points one is available at 7 months.

We have 4 home resorts - one of them being BCV. If I want to reserve BCV at the 11 month mark, I use all of the current year's BCV points, all of my banked in BCV points, and then borrow as needed. The next vacation, I will use another contract's points. Depending on what time of the year that you travel, I have been able to book BCV at the 7 month mark, and use another resort's points. We travel in September and May, and have been able to book a 2 bedroom (dedicated) at the BCV at the 7 month mark. So far, I have only needed my 11 month BCV window for December.

then, at the 7 month window when my SSR points would be eligible to use to book at BCV, can i un-borrow the BCV points and use 23 SSR points from this year to book that one bedroom at BCV?

IF there is availability at BCV at 7 months, you can cancel and rebook a night at BCV using SSR pts and then bank any current BCV pts that were freed up by cancelling that night. but if BCV is booked up, you can't just swap out pts to defeat the home resort window.

as stated, there is no way to book BCV with SSR pts of any kind (banked/current/borrowed) at the 11 month window. if you want to guarantee that all of your stays are at BCV, you need to have all of your pts at BCV and book at the 11 month window.

but if you're happy to be onsite and flexible about where you stay a bit, just book SSR at 11 months and ask to move at the 7 month window. it'll work on a regular basis but if not, you're still onsite at wdw...

I would bank and borrow at 11 months if that extra day is that important to you. I never count on being able to get BCV at the 7 month window; I've been unsuccessful waitlisting more than once.

For us, it's no big deal to do a split stay. So what I would do is book the first night at SSR and then move to BCV. At the 7 month window, see if you can change that one night at SSR over to BCV or waitlist it.

It's not as simple as just unborrowing at the 7 month point. There would have to be availability at the 7 month point in order for you to modify your reservation.

might not want to spend any more money after buying a vacation club, but i believe you can buy up to 24 points one time in one year...at $15 per point

You have a few options. You can book at split stay at 11 months, booking the number of nights you can with BCV and then fill in with nights at SSR.

At the 7 month mark, see if you can change the SSR nights to BCV and then link the reservations.

You could also alternate which contract you use each year. One year borrow BCV points to get 400 and then banked SSR so you have 400 to use at SSR the next year. This way, you can book an entire trip at the 11 month mark as one complete reservation.

The only other option would be to transfer points from one to the other membership. If you do this, then you would be able to book a single night at the 7 month mark with points from both.

When you own two UY's, hence two membership, you can't easily combine points for a single night. You have to transfer between the two if you want. Since you are limited to one transfer per UY, this can be tricky.

I think if it were me, I would always book split stays and then trade things out at 7 months and hope I can get one continuous stay.

You can only do this at the 7month mark so not really an option.
