Gift number 1- Laptop for someone that wants to mostly do Photo editing. Any thoughts on what capacity I should make sure I have to allow him to upload tons of photos? And what is a good beginner photo editing program?

Gift number 2 for my teenage son- he lucked out and got DH's old digital camera- a much better camera than a normal teenager would have - he wants a tripod. I need one that will not drop that camera. So a good quality Tripod? I guess easily transportable as he takes it everywhere.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any help!

What camera does your son now have and what lenses, flashes, accesories? And what type of shooting does he do? Tripods and tripod heads are rated based upon the amount of weight they hold. Also there are different types of tripod heads, so knowing the type of shooting he does will help. Knowing the gear he has and the type of shooting he does will get you better recommendations.

Could you give us some price ranges? The best laptop for photo editing is probably a Macbook Pro with a 17 inch screen, but they start at $2,500.

As far as good photo editing for beginers..I would go with Photoshop Elements...or Paint Shop Pro x2...pref. Photoshop though. They run under $100 and can get him started. There are many tutorials on both of these too!

paint shop pro photo, is on sale right now for 39.99

it's an excellent program with an easy learning curve...

:scared1: nope hoping for under $1000 although I do have a Mac and that would probably make it all easier. hmmm Where to find $2500? but thank you for the idea. Now I see Best buy has the 13 inch one for $1000 (He will be using this for commuting so lightweight is a plus which is why smaller might not be a terrible thing- but 13 sounds really small)

My son's camera is the Nikon D80.

I was looking at the gorilla ones? But I don't think they are strong enough. And the lenses he uses are all over the place but usually the standard 35 mm. Thanks
