Hi everybody.....just found out that my friend, her husband, and 5 year old son are going to WDW the same time as my hubby, 5 year old son and I are going. Can anybody suggest a place to stay onsight....my family already has reservations at POR, but we figure that with the 6 of us going, maybe we can share the cost of something with a kitchen in it and save on buying all our meals in the park. Since I am not overly familiar with WDW, I figured that all of you would be a better source of info. We don't plan on spending every waking minute together, but maybe getting a nicer room with a kitchen would be great. Please give me any advice that you have.

Thanks
Deb

One of the DVC resorts might work...but you'd have to flip for who gets the master BR.

Try the DVC boards, it's generally much more econiomical to rent points from a member. It's still going to probably cost considerably more than two rooms at PO.

A 2 br unit at OKW would be great for you, but pricey.

Have you considered a 3 br villa or condo offsite. Tons of them close to disney and less than $100 a nite.

I would suggest "separate rooms" to insure your friendship stays intact. Two 5 year olds can be very challenging and I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade but having your own space (place) can be a blessing. But if you really want to be all together, The Wilderness Cabins may also be a consideration. They are listed at a great price right now, $169 a night from 4/27 through 7/3/03, must book by 3/8/03. I would suggest gettting two rooms together at PO (you can request connecting rooms). If they must be on one reservation to do this, you can always use your credit card and have your friends write you a check. If you plan to vacation together, there are different things to consider. You can make it fun, by planning a night to talk about the trip. Invite them over for desert and have little questionaires that each person can fill out. Questions such as:

Do you plan to sleep in or get up early?
Do you want to take a mid day break?
Do you want to ride thrill rides or stick to what the kids can do?
do you like to have a plan or play it by ear?
Do you plan to eat in sit-down restaruants or counter service?
Will your child be walking or will you rent a stroller? I suggest strollers for this age!

If you plan carefully, you can even plan for a night out for each couple, while the other couple entertains the kids, or a girls day at the WS or guys day doing whatever they do. Make sure the kids have time apart, unless they will cry for each other.

Another tip: I pack a roll of masking tape and a permanent thin marker. After I dress my son, I write our cell phone # on a piece of tape and stick it to the back of his shirt. This just makes me feel better.

going at a non-crowded/good weather time of year always equals less stress!

Rooms onsite for more than 4-5 are very expensive! The cabins are affordable, but with only one bathroom and one television, you'd have to be very close friends. :)

On site has a lot of advantages for a group (easy to split up & meet again being the main one I can think of), so even though you won't have a kitchen, 2 rooms are POR would be great! Privacy, yet togetherness. Even if you don't request connecting rooms, it'll still be fun!
