2 ECVs in a room and on a bus

im taking my mother in law on her first ever trip to WDW as a surprise for her 75th. I suffer from severe back issues and Fibromyalgia, so cannot walk long distances (or sometimes even short ones). Over my last couple of trips I have swallowed my pride and accepted that if I'm going to be able to enjoy my trip relatively pain free (or as pain free as possible) that involves me renting an ECV.

My mother in law is pretty mobile, but we're coming from the UK, it will most likely be her one and only trip, and we only have 4 full park days, so we'll be hitting it hard. She will hate the idea of an ECV, but I'm thinking that by Day 3 (and before we've even hit Epcot) she could be struggling. Add to that the fact she suffers severe sciatica off and on, she may just have to accept she needs one for the distances. If she's generally ok, but just needs help then renting her one at the park may be the way to go (I'm renting from offsite). But if she's struggling before we go then it will be cheaper to rent one for her too from the same place as me.

So, here's the questions:

1. We are staying at POFQ. Is there enough room in the rooms for 2 ECVs if we have them remove the table and chairs? (And are there plenty of plugs)

2. How many ECVs can go on a bus at a time? Is it just one, or can two fit.

Thanks :)

1 yes there should be enough room is it just the two of you and I take it since you are only going for 4 days ( do not know if there are travel days) you should not have that much stuff. so yo should be fine. do not know about the plugged in the room maybe bring an exstion cord ( not sure you need one)

2 only two ECV on most busses there are the extra long ( almost 2 busses together ) but they only go to certion resort not sure if that one is one of them.

Thank you. Yes, it is just the two of us, it's t nights, but we land 4:30pm the day of arrival, and fly out 6pm on departure day, so just 4 full park days. I'm trying hard to not bring a lot of stuff, but I'm not a light packer. But it should be 1 suitcase and 1 carryon each. (We won't talk about the purchases we will be bringing home though rofl).

Thanks for the info about the bus. I worried that it might be one only. If it's two then we can always choose to wait for the next bus Rtherapy than get separated. I know my way round the parks well, but she won't so I don't want her to feel stranded or deserted.

Hanks so much :)

you can but some things in the drawers that are in the room I have never stayed there but all the hotels have some the number could vary between resorts, this could help save room if need be also I have been told that if you do need the chair table taken out go down to the front desk and ask then that calling may not get it done

Every bus can take two ecvs or wheelchairs their some that can take three and a few that can take four.

yes

POFQ does not have the extra long buses. Those only go to the Value resorts from what I have heard.

Disney has designated some outside rental places as Disney Featured Providers
These are many good rental companies, but if you rent from a company that is not on the list, you will need to be present for delivery and pick up.
Only the 'Featured Providers' listed below are able to deliver and pick up from Bell Services without you being there. If you find your room seems too crowded, you could store the ECVs in Bell Services.

POFQ rooms should be able to accommodate 2 rental ECVs with the table & chairs removed. (it's our family favorite for Moderates)

As others have noted - be sure to ask in person, at the Front Desk to have the table & chairs moved from the room. If you wait until you get to the room, and call the Front Desk, your call goes to a Call Center for the Resorts - not the actual Front Desk at the property you are staying at. Hence, the advice to work directly with staff on property.

Typically, you should not have many problems with 2 ECVs as you travel to/from the Parks. If you have a bit of spare time, remember that you can always catch a bus from the Parks to Disney Springs, and then take the boat from there to go home to POFQ.

Please please please check the manufacturer's specifications before using an extension cord with an ECV. Many ECVs advise AGAINST using extension cords as it is not safe.

Keep in mind though, that if there is already a WC/ECV at the bus stop when you arrive, you will need to wait for the next bus if you want to travel together. Also keep in mind that POFQ often shares buses with Riverside. POFQ is our favorite mod and we love staying there. In our experience, the bus went to FQ first, but that isn't a guarantee. When my sister has stayed there (POFQ is her first choice now), she has gotten on a bus that has come from Riverside first.

If you book a "regular" room, you absolutely will have to have the table and chairs removed. We fit my ECV in the room but never could have fit a second. Now, if you don't mind sharing the king bed (and that is a bookable category at the moderates) you probably could keep the table/chairs and have enough room for both. Just a thought....

Thanks so much everyone. I realise we may need to wait for the next bus if needing to travel together. I don't mind that. I was just hoping that it wasn't single scooter/chair per bus. It is a regular room. I won't make her share with me as I toss and turn too much, but the King was a great suggestion.

Thanks for the extension cord warning. If that's an issue I'm assuming we can likely take the batteries off and place them close to a charging outlet if the scooters aren't close enough.

I've used Best Price for wheelchair rental on the last trip as we were offsite and I wasn't sure a scooter could fit in our rental car. We've since found a couple of companies that rent the ones that break down and will take my weight so will do that for offsite in the future. I have decided ECV is the way to go in future to have more independence and save DH from my frustration lol. We did rent a Disney one for a couple of our longer days and it was so much more peaceful (DH doesn't have a good turning circle or brakes). For this trip an ECV is a must as I won't ask MIL to push and I'm the tour guide. I've decided either Best Price as we had a good rental experience or Buena Vista as they have superb write ups on here. Walker is in the mix, again with excellent reviews, but they can't drop off so I think with such a short trip every minute counts

I still don't know if MIL will need or accept she needs an ECV but you all have put my mind at rest that is she does we can make it work

Thank you!!

Not all ECV batteries can be removed from the ECV for charging, so if you think that you are interested in that, it would be something to discuss when arranging the rental.

In the past, many ECVs had pretty short charging cords, which encouraged people to use extension cords. Over the past 5 years or more, they have been adding information that says not to use extension cords.
Most of the companies have made the charging cords longer though.

Thanks, yes I would be asking ahead of time if the batteries could be removed for charging. Glad to hear they're starting to make the cords longer. :)

Good news for those of us that love POFQ - Andre' at PortOrleans.org says that POFQ now has more dedicated buses since December of 2015 - copied from this page at his site:

Disney has recently made a few tweaks and adjustments to the free bus system which transports guests from the Port Orleans resorts to the theme parks. The route changes actually make a lot of sense, and should make the service generally more consistent and predicable for guests when visiting the different parks - and hopefully reduce some of the confusion that has been reported over the years.

The bus information page at portorleans.org/buses.php is now fully up-to-date with the new details, but the main points to take away are:

  • Buses now start running at 7am (whereas the first buses used to be around 6:45am).
  • The first few buses of the day all run as shared services from French Quarter and Riverside (apart from the Animal Kingdom buses for some reason).
  • For the rest of the day, more of the routes now operate as independent services rather than having so many shared French Quarter/Riverside routes. Both the Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios now appear to have their own separate services running to and from Riverside and French Quarter all day for example.
  • Whenever bus routes do happen to be shared, the first call is now always French Quarter rather than one of the Riverside stops (which used to vary park-by-park).
  • The Riverside pickup order for all of the theme parks now consistently has the West Depot as the first call, then North, East and South.
  • The Disney Springs buses continue to also act as an Internal Resort Shuttle service, with stops at French Quarter, Riverside South/West/North/East and then back to French Quarter again before heading onward to Disney Springs.
