Our friends are going to book a 2 br at AKL for Jan 2012. Its their home resort. Our home resort is OKW. We're going to be staying in the extra bedroom. In order to pay our way, can we just transfer the equivalent number of points from our account to theirs? We both have December use years. Would they be able to use those points in the future at AKL at 11 months or are the points still tied to OKW?

Or is there an easier way to do this?

Could they book 2, 1 bedroom units at AKL at 11 months and then at 7 months we change that ressie and use our points for our 1 bedroom?

Confusing, eh?

Tony

The transferred points would stay OKW points.

At 7 months you could not just substitute your points for their points while keeping the same reservation. You would have to make a new reservation using your OKW points. Unless your friends are willing to have you transfer your OKW points, knowing that at 11 months your points could only be used at OKW, your best option would probably be to book at OKW and then call at exactly 7 months and hope you could get AKV. Or you could try to rent out your OKW points and then pay your friends or someone else in cash for an AKV reservation at 11 months. Good luck!

I've done it both ways with DVC friends but it was 7 months or under. In one case, a friend who owned BCV transferred points to my account and we booked BWV. Another time, I booked some nights, she booked some nights and we linked them to make one reservation. No problem either way we did it.

Be sure your plans are firm because it could be difficult to untangle, especially with the transfer option.

You are both DVC members, so why don't you just book your own rooms? Much less complicated and down the road if there were changes to be made it would be better.

We leave in a couple of weeks for a shared vacation. The thing that makes our reservation easier is that we BOTH own at the same resort (OKW). We are doing a GV, and I booked the first 3 nights, and she booked the last 4 and we had the reservations linked. We originally planned to each have our own units...we in a 1 bedroom and their family in a 2 bedroom with 3 couples. We decided it would be so much easier if EACH couple had their own room and bathroom, so we are doing the GV. It ended up being less points for both of us than what we were originally booked with.
