2 days without going in the parks

We'll be staying in WDW for 2 days before our Disney cruise out of Port Canaveral. Any suggestions on what to do? I'm usually running around the parks. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids ages 5 & 8.

I'm hoping to stay at Animal Kingdom Villas (we own at BLT so I have to wait a few more weeks to book somewhere else).

Our flight lands in Orlando around 8:30pm, so that night we'll just head right to the resort. My plan for the next day is to have a nice breakfast at Boma and then spend a few hours in the pool. Then head to Downtown Disney in the afternoon for some Ghiradelli's, maybe dinner at Raglan Road and then bowling at Splitsville?

The next day I would like to ride the monorail and visit the resorts. Maybe lunch at Grand Floridian Cafe or Kona Cafe? Then head over to the Boardwalk and rent a family bike before heading to our hotel near the port.

Any other suggestions?

My daughters will be 5 & 8 when we go back. We are going to try Fantasia Gardens Mini Golf.

We had a blast at Fort Wilderness riding bikes, looking at the horses, playing at the playground and on the beach, and taking a wagon ride. We also enjoy the resort campfires and movies. FW is an easy boat ride from the CR. Our kids and I really enjoyed the Chip and Dale sing along campfire. We also had fun walking around AoA and viewing the different themed areas.

Thanks for your suggestions! I'm hoping we'll be able to keep busy, I wanted to go in the parks but it will cost so much for our family just to go in for a day or 2.

There's lots to do at AKL too. We plan to go there for the evening and look at animals with the night vision goggles, African storytelling and maybe the African drumming if we can get there in time.

We've really enjoyed the Winter Summerland mini golf! There's two different courses and a lot of fun! Factor in time at the Lego store in DTD. They have that great play area in back where the kids can build and race Lego creations.

If your room is not a Savannah view at AK, then maybe Sanaa with an animal view should be considered for lunch or daylight dinner....certainly Boma for breakfast (our preference over dinner here) should be on you list to be considered.

Kona and Grand Floridian Cafe are better than Wave if you are exploring the Monorail hotels. If just doing one hotel - Grand Floridian is a better stroll, Polynesian lobby has just been renovated and pictures look inviting.

We enjoy the sandwich and Ghiradelli's combo. Sometimes, House of Blues and Cirque de Soleil. Raglan Road is known for reasonable food and a good time (we've never been). Splitsville when my daughter is large enough to hold the ball. Disney Quest might offer an opportunity to pay for an indoor-Park experience that is less than the $100 Park admission.

I know at POR and FQ there are horse drawn carriage rides between the two resorts (they are a good walking distance between the main lobbies but ive walked it a lot for exercise) and its so beautiful walking the path that the horse ride would be so much fun!!!

Next March we sail the day after EAster, and we plan on going to WDW either Saturday or Sunday. Our APs will have expired and we aren't going back for a while so we will probably do resort/Downtown Disney stuff too. Some good ideas here!

If going to mini-golf, Swan & Dolphin have Fountain ice cream / diner, or Boardwalk is another nearby place to stroll.
