2 BR Villa versus 2 BR Lock Off Villa

We always prefer the dedicated 2BR since it usually has more closet space in the 2nd bedroom (no need for an exit hallway). Just more space in general since the 2nd bedroom doesn't need the exit door nor the kitchenette. Also, you don't have to worry about the connecting door taking up wall space for furniture.

But we've stayed in both many times and it really doesn't matter much. Some people who have little kids don't like the exit door in the 2nd bedroom. Some people with older guests or friends like the separate entry and separate thermostat.

I think if you don't ask, Disney will book the dedicated 2BR first to give them the most booking flexibility for 1BR and studios.

I think it would depend on the makeup of the traveling party. Having 2 real beds in the 2nd bedroom would be much better than 1 bed and 1 sleeper sofa if the party is larger. However if it was 2 adult couples I could the lock off being a better fit.

Really just depends on if the second bed in the second bedroom were needed or not.

At AKV Kidani, we consider the dedicated 2BR a necessity over the lock-off because the dedicated has one long balcony running across all three rooms, ideal for group viewing with savanna view, while the lock-off has a wall between the studio and 1BR, not just affecting group viewing but also affecting the scope of the savanna view. At BLT, we also prefer the dedicated because for lake view we request rooms at the end of a wing, which we consider somewhat better for viewing, and all lake view end rooms are dedicated 2BRs. The other one we stay at mostly is BWV and you don't have an option because it has no dedicated 2BRs.

It depends, when traveling with family we alway get them a dedicated 2BR for the extra bed in the 2nd bedroom. But if we are sharing a 2BR with family, we get lockoff and then we stay in the studio portion. I really like have the couch to sit on versus a bed.

When we book the 2 bedroom villa, we are doing it to vacation with our kids and grandkids.
It is more fun for us with the standard 2 bedroom rather than the lock-off because it is more like a big sleepover.
It also happens to be what has been left for us to book anyway at 7 months - but we like it.
If we were traveling with friends, the lock-off would make more sense and not disturb others if one group stays out late or gets up early.
