2 bedroom suite or 2 rooms?

After a few solo Dis trips, I now have my mom wanting to go along. We did Dis together in 2011 where I discovered she is an all night, every night snorer. I got no sleep because she was out instantly and noising it up in 10 minutes, whereas it takes me a bit to nod off. I never had a chance to fall asleep, let alone try to sleep through the noise. On top of that, it was hard getting ready with her under foot and I really don't do well with someone glued to my side, I need at least 20 mins a day to just be alone.

My first solution was separate rooms, but I keep hearing comments from her about how much we could save splitting a room. Mom honestly refuses to admit how bad her snoring is. When I try to tell her, she thinks I am making fun of her or being too critical. That her bf is losing his hearing and doesn't notice, does not help my case.

I then suggested we stay at a mod (probably POFQ) as it would be cheaper. But she keeps saying how much she liked the location of the GF when we stayed there. This is going to be an Epcot based trip, so if staying deluxe, I prefer an Epcot hotel which would also be cheaper than a monorail. If I could get a magical deal on 2 rooms, I would stay Epcot or monorail happily.

I got thinking about 2 bedroom suites. I know what the 2 room trip would be like, but suites are new to me. My questions are:

Are they something you can get outside of DVC rooms?

Would us splitting a suite (having separate sleeping areas would solve all 3 probs with sharing a room) be more economical than paying for 2 separate rooms?

Which hotels offer this?

If we book a 2 bedroom suite, are we guaranteed a suite with 2 distinct bedrooms, or could we walk in to find only one room with a bed and a sleeper sofa in the living room or some other arrangement that defeats the purpose of booking a 2 room suite?

A two bedroom suite would have two distinct bedrooms and then a sleeper sofa in the living area. I would personally prefer to have two separate hotel rooms. Sometimes some privacy is very needed when traveling with family :)

How about art of animation? Separate sleeping areas, and two bathrooms. Not deluxe, but cheaper than two rooms at a mod. Otherwise, 2 rooms at swan/dolphin may work better cost wise and is still walking distance to epcot.

My family stayed in a 2 bedroom suite at the BWI a few years ago. I am not exactly sure of the cost, because someone else hosted us as a gift (SO nice!!!)
It had small living area with a pull out sofa, table for 4, and a little kitchenette area. There was also a half bath and a balcony with garden views (we could see the Epcot fireworks at night.) There was a large master suite with a King size bed and a chair. A large bathroom with spa tub and separate shower. The second bedroom had 2 queen sized beds and a sofa, plus it's own bath (more of a standard bath, not as luxurious as the master suite.) Both bedrooms had balconies as well.
The suite was on the club level.

The two bedroom suites can be significantly more expensive than two rooms. You do get the benefit of having a sofa and kitchen, but if your main concern is two separate sleeping quarters, then it will be cheaper to go with two rooms. You can book 2 bedroom villas direct through Disney, but they are often not available unless you book far in advance. A two bedroom villa at GF is $1146 a night this summer. :crazy2: Your most reasonably priced two bedroom villas are going to be at Old Key West and Saratoga Springs (usually about $450 - 550 a night, with a summer discount) and their locations are no better than POFQ.

We rented points at BLT for our May trip for a 2 br standard view villa. It was significantly cheaper than renting direct through Disney. You may want to check into that option if a 2 br is how you want to proceed.

A 2br suite can be very expensive. I would get 2 rooms or maybe the suite at AoA, AsMu, or Fort Wilderness Cabin to have the separation that you are looking for.

I didn't consider AoA, I am usually a deluxe hotel stayer. I will have to check that out. Also look into magical deals. We would probably be going April 2016.

Thanks for all the replies, I thought two rooms might be cheaper :)

Are you talking about dvc two bedroom or two bedroom suites at the hotels? the dvc room might be cheaper then two rooms at a deluxe hotel but the two bedroom suites at the resorts would certainly cost more then two rooms. they'd cost more then two club level rooms. They are very nice and I like the idea of that option but if you're looking to save money going from two hotel rooms to a 2 bedroom suite won't be your best bet.

I didn't know if two bedroom suites were only DVC rooms or if hotels had ones that weren't DVC. Sounds like there is a difference.

We don't need the kitchen and all, just enough walls so I can sleep in peace :). We will probably just do two regular rooms. Mom really likes the GF. Cost wouldn't normally matter that much, but I am doing 9 nights at the Poly on a magical deal in December and the April trip was supposed to be a quick stuff my face at the flower show booths trip, that ballooned with her interest. If we can get a deal at GF will probably go there

I agree that a 2 bedroom suite (not talking DVC) is generally significantly more expensive than 2 rooms are.

Given that she snores, and you want your privacy, and that you're both adults, I'd say book yourself two rooms. End of story. Figure out where you want to stay and then let her know.

I would rent DVC points if I wanted a two bedroom. Just because there is a kitchen doesn't mean you have to use it. The dvc villas are very nice and are large. There are a lot of different resorts to choose from. Renting points can also be a great value saving you a lot of money!

As to the snoring, we are both occasionally noisy at night. We picked up on a trick our daughter used to drown out dorm noise in college. Get a small but loud fan. Set it close to your head and the drone will block practically any noise. We take one every trip.
And I would go with two rooms. I went through the same sleepless nights on a trip many years ago. Mom will get over it and may enjoy a little privacy herself even if she doesn't admit it.

Two rooms are definitely the way to go!! I have travelled with my Mom frequently over the years and we have just accepted that we are both happier with our own sleeping space. The suite or villa would reduce the privacy that you will enjoy with 2 rooms and likely cost more money. If you want extra space beyond the rooms, book CL.

To address the cost issue, I would book during a RO promotion and make a deal of the money saved on the rooms. With just the two of you booking 2 rooms, you have the ability to be flexible and book any of the MK or Epcot resorts. I can speak from experience that all of them are wonderful!

Another way to save a few $$ is to book 2 rooms at the Swan or Dolphin. They have great discounts, especially for teachers, nurses or military. If you aren't lucky enough to qualify for one of those, they also offer AAA and senior/AARP discounts that are substantial.

Good luck!

Do you need a two bedroom suite? Could you rent a one bedroom DVC since it is just two of you?

1 bedroom would require sleeper bed for 1. Plus would still have snoring through bedroom door IMO. Renting DVC would probably best option or renting 2 POLY DVC studios.

I use a white noise machine at home, and have a free app on my phone for white noise too. It's less to bring, but just make sure your phone is plugged in and put it on the nightstand. Easier than bringing something else.

Renting a 2 bedroom DVC villa from an owner is still often pricey. Much cheaper would be to rent two studios.

White noise makes me anxious. We have them at work for when the boss wants to hide that he is on a personal call and it is such a relief when he shuts it off.

I think I have her sold on separate rooms. Then she can hurry to bed the second she hits her room at night and I can spend some time decompressing in the quiet.
