2 adults staying offsite no Genie+ questions

My husband and I will be visiting Disneyland park (no park hopping) on Friday Sep 30 for my birthday. We will be staying at the Anaheim Marriott, so no early entry for us. We are debating whether we want to purchase Genie+ or not. If we don't buy it, where in the park would you start your itinerary, other than tomorrowland as my hubby will most likely ride single rider? Do we start with non LL rides or standby on rides that offer LL to those with Genie+? Thank you!

Always start in Fantasyland. The rides are slow loading and don't have Lightning Lanes.
Most of the rides between 8am and 11am have very low wait times, so if you go hard you can get lots done in just standyby lines.

Save the rides with single rider lines for later when standby wait times get high.

I had Genie+ for all my days and most days I didnt start booking Lightning Lanes until lunch time.

If you rope drop, the early morning wait times are really manageable. What rides are you wanting to do? That could help us with building you a good itinerary. There's an argument to start in Fantasyland but I could also make one that early morning is a great time to ride LL rides if you're not doing Genie+ because you're going to be less impacted by them since more people use the LL as the day goes on and especially after 10am.

We only used Genie+ for 2 of our 5 days, but it made a huge difference when we did have it. We were able to ride more and it was relaxing knowing that we had a reservation for rides rather than hoping the lines wouldn't get too long. On our days many lines were 50-120 minutes. But we just walked right on with LL.

If you don't want Genie+, maybe decide what your priorities are ahead of time. I always start in Fantasyland because Peter Pan is my #1 goal every day of every trip. My kids HAD to ride Matterhorrn, so they went on that first thing and met me in Fantasyland later. On our rope drop days none of the lines anywhere were too bad until around 10:00/10:30.

I understand the cost issues with adding Genie+. But, if you wanted 1 or 2 nice photos from your birthday, then Genie+ also includes the photopass as well as the LL access. It is cheaper to just buy the photopass outright without Genie+, but it is an added benefit built into the Genie+ program.

I mean, heck, you don't even have to have your husband in the birthday photographs. I've been elbowed out by my DW several times for photos. Just sayin'.

Yes, I was there last week and had Genie+ for all my days. I love having photopass included and would look for as many photographers as I could. I got some really cool photos by The Millennium Falcon.

Each night when I got back to my hotel, I downloaded all that days photos onto my laptop.

You also get the onride photos with Genie+ I have a great photo from Radiator Springs

This is a current benefit with Genie+. As you probably are very aware, TWDC does change offerings (by change I mean eliminate) at any time. Again, it is less expensive to simply purchase photopass for one day. Yet, there are the benefits of LL.

My DW was insistent that we get Genie+ for our upcoming trip. She wants Photo pass and she wants the ability to access rides quickly from time to time. My DD has a hidden disability and she a chemo history, so we have utilized DAS in past trips for WDW because she has certain side effects with chemo. This is our first DLR trip and I thought Genie+ was overkill assuming DD gets DAS too, but this is a birthday vacation for my DW too and what the birthday girl wants, the birthday girl gets (within reason).
