2 1/2 Yearl Olds Going Through Security...talk me through it.

It would be very unusual to get to carry a child through. We always put one adult at the front and one at the end and they walk from one to the other. What can be hard is securtiy guards try and rush you but i always try and resist as it gets stressful between putting things on the belt and watching the childen, following instructions, and collecting things again. with two children at least you have one adult per child it got complicated for us with three children. My advice would be make sure you take your time and all will go weel. Security guards are usually pretty good with children.

I flew with my two children at different ages. Most recent my ds was the small one.

I’ve always been allowed to at least walk through holding a child’s hand from the time dd was 4, but that could have been because I was the only adult. When we traveled with others I would send her to another adult who had already gone through.

When my son was 21 months, thankfully they let me carry him through. I sent my 8 year-old through first and ds and I followed. I was going to put him down to walk because I had read on the TSA site that was what I needed to do, but he wasn’t having it for some reason. They let me carry him.

Last summer when he was 2.5, we flew again and I sent my 9 year-old through and ds and I walked through holding hands. Thankful for that because he was a runner.

Have fun on your trip.

I think the best advice I can give you is that the kids will take their cues from you about the situation. If you are anxious and upset, they will be too. We never prepped our kids, just said we have to walk throug a metal detector, all your toys and things go on the belt so the nice people can make sure no one brought anything they weren't supposed to. My husband goes through first, then the four kids, followed by me. We have never had any issues. I was pulled aside one time for additional screening, the kids thought it was hysterical :headache:

While a calm adult will give the greatest chance for a calm child, it's no guarantee. Little kids understand the world differently, and can sometimes get upset at the most mystifying things. I'm just glad they let kids keep their shoes on now, because wowie did that upset DS once or twice. He had already traveled quite a bit, relative to our financial situation at the time, but he grew up just a tad and it took on some new, mystifying, significance that he had to take off his shoes.

There's something about the metal detector that weirded DS out, too, and he's always glad to get through it.
