OK, Hubby and I have been to Disney in two years how crazy are we to think a week at Disney with 2 1/2 years old triplets will be fun? We know we'll probably have alot of down time at the hotel but we miss it and we want to bring them we're pretty laid back/flexible people? Am I crazy to think this?

My dear friend went to WDW with 2 1/2 year old triplets and they had a great time! I'm sure she'll be here to post soon!

You're not crazy! Go and have fun!!!

Go for it! We have 7 yr. old triplets and weren't able to take them at 2 1/2 for health reasons, but since they turned 5, we've been on 2 Disney cruises and visited the parks 4 times.

You'll have a blast!
Pam

Hi I am Roo's Mom's friend. We just took our 21/2 year old triplets in Nov. They really did great. We did have my bil and his gf for help. We definately needed the help for the plane, and it was great when we were in line waiting for the rides. My sons can def be runners, if your kids are good listeners and wont leave your side you should be fine. Things that worked for us, we had a 2 bd at the boardwalk we ate bkfast in the room and sometimes even dinner. Sit down meals were def our most challenging part. We did crystal palace and chef mickeys liked them both my kids LOVED chef Mickeys. My dd loved all of teh characters, they loved the parades, shows (esp the one at the castle) and teh fireworks. They surprisingly enough fell asleep in the stollers. We went back to the hotel in the afternoon to swim or just relax. We geared everything to them though my dh and I took turns going on certain rides. They really did great, go it will be wonderful

Wow! Good for you! Hey, I say if you can raise three triplets at home, you can certainly take them to Disney where I think good kids generally behave better than ever. They have all that stuff to entertain them and wear them out so that by the end of the day you have a lovely evening all to yourself and your DH (we always have nice romantic evenings at Disney - we just sit out on the balcony with a glass of champagne and talk for hours!). Again, good for you, and congratulations - I think you will have three times as much fun. Don't forget to post a trip report - I'd love to read it!

Thanks for the confidence boost! We know we'll have to take it slow.
But thanks for the replies! We're also planning on staying at BWV.

BWV - good call! If I were to pick the single best way to make a trip to Disney better it would be to stay in a room with a kitchen! I think we save about a thousand dollars per trip by only going out to breakfast or dinner when we want to. We loved AKL but it turned our good eater into a girl who would only eat grapes and macaroni.

I have boy/girl twins and we took them for the first time when they had just turned 2. ( they are now 4 and we are about to leave for our 6th trip on thursday!)
The one thing I had to adjust to having been without kids before was to slow down and take it easy. I used to think I had to do everything to get my money's worth, but we had a much better time when we took things slow, took time for naps and just to rest. My kids just love being there- they don't have to ride everything to be happy. We usually pick one or two things we really want to do at each park and then just do other things as we have time. Disney is the only place I ever felt really that really went out of their way for dealing with 2 young kids ( changing tables in men's and women's rooms, baby care centers, etc). Take them and have a great time!

i thought I was crazy too. Just returned with my 2 1/2 year old triplets. They are still talking about it and like to look at the pictures. They were good with the face characters but 2 out of the three did not care for the others. We went at their pace. Took them back to the room for naps but they wouldn't nap. They did better falling asleep in their strollers. My MIL was more trouble than the kids.

hi!

i say GO and have a great time! we were there in Nov., too, with our just-turned-2 yr. olds along with my parents and my in-laws...it wasn't quite what i expected, but we had a great time!

the first night was stayed at AKL--they liked boma and LOVED the playground there. the rest of the time
we stayed at the cabins in ft. wilderness...it was really nice having the extra bedroom with a door for naptime and bedtime. like everyone else, my kids slept really well for naps and bedtime (they took huge naps!), but they wouldn't sleep in strollers, so we spent lots of time at the cabin (the porch was great for this).

one of the things i found while there is that we didn't really use the kitchen like we thought we would--my kids generally eat well, but they really didn't want much of the home cooked food.....i was more concerned about them eating enough to keep them from getting cranky than i was about the quality of food they ate, so they ate lots of cereal bars, cereal, pbj, frozen waffles, pizza (in the parks), and fruit (i did stock up on snacks from the health food store before i left to alleviate any guilt i might feel about giving them nothing but junk--that helped, i think!).

it was great having the car parked right outside the cabin as we drove everywhere(we found it much easier than using disney transportation from FW).

my kids LOVED festival of the lion king, playing on the playground at AKL and in ft. wilderness, playing on the beach at the POLY,parades, the fireworks from the poly beach, cinderella's carrousel, the monorail, meeting characters, and the mgm playhouse. they liked (or were at least ok with)winnie, buzz, breakfast at crystal palace, and dumbo and the magic carpets, jungle cruise, and the safari ride. they didn't like philharmagic.

we're planning a trip for just the 5 of us in april. here are the things i've learned from my last trip....

the way my kids napped (3 hrs every day!!), we had very little time in the afternoon at the parks by the time we factored in transport time to the parks.....we're looking to stay at the POLY in april for easy access to MK and others (by way of TTC). also, we're thinking of alternating full days in the parks (with a short nap), with full days "off" (another reason to stay at the poly: the beach and sloped-entry into the pool...perfect for little ones.)

i think a room with a refrigerator and microwave (even if i have to bring my own) will be enough for us. it won't be as easy, though.

not sure if we'll do another character breakfast-- it was tough trying to keep them in their seats after 15 minutes. dh and i didn't really get a chance to eat much...

i think my kids will really like the wedway people mover (we didn't do it this time) and small world as they are more mellow rides. we'll spend more time in AK (we didn't do the bone yard or tri. spin) and we'll try and see Festival of the lion king and playhouse disney more than once each (they loved it that much).

we're also considering bringing our peg perego stroller as my kids hated the nice umbrella strollers we bought for WDW use--perhaps because they were new to them and they weren't accustomed to the FREEDOM of having the option to be in or out---they know that once they're in their stroller, only MOMMY--or daddy--decides when they can come out (i know you triplet moms understand this!!!!).....

we'll stay at one place and not switch hotels (originally, we thought this would be fun as we'd get the distinct advantages of both places)...it was very disruptive to naptime and not worth it!

oh, don't know if you'll be driving or flying, but we drove and it wasn't too bad...we considered flying, but by the time you add up the cost of the tickets plus the rental minivan, we decided we'd rather suck it up on the drive and spend the extra cash on the POLY.

hmmmm....hope some of this rambling helps....

have a great time!

oh, by the way, hueydueyandluey--did i see your picture of the kids in the strollers on the TC? too cute!!!!!

Hello there! I am going at the end of March. I have twins that are almost 3, a 1 year old and a 7 year old! I live in the Panhandle of FL, so we will be driving. I am just trying to find a place to fit us and our budget. That is tough. My father took our family every year and he always says get a place with a kitchen. I am hoping evverything goes well for us!!!

Our first "family" trip was to the Poly when They were almost two 1/2. B/G twins had a GREAT time. Definately need an official assistant whether Grandma wants to go as well. The kids were asleep every night by 7 and December was too cold for them to be out at night. My mom watched them while DH and I went out and froze! The Poly helped a great deal with the monorail right there. Less walking and the kids were entertained with the train rather than misbehaving on the bus (loose from a car seat!) Definately go just to see what they want to see. It's a hard change but worth everytime you go!

asktriplets,
that was my pic lol (it is actually my sig here). I'm glad to see you had a great trip, and that you are going back so soon, good for you. My kids also loved it, they were really into the parades and characters. They still talk about all the characters they saw and LOVE watching the video of the trip. We are planning on going to go back next fall, havent decided on Oct or Nov yet.

Tons of fun! We went with our 2 1/2 year old twins & 6 month old baby & we all had fun- better if you are laid back and flexible - plan in plenty of down time & be sure to hit the spots you really want to go to early on in your trip - Have fun! :)

ASKTRIPLETS had a lot of great suggestions- I bought a bunch of snacks & that worked better than trying to find something to eat in the park.

i agree i let one stress me out, but for the next time i would like to have twins, wish me luck and it is awesome that everything worked out

just wanted to add something regarding a comment made by another poster.... i, too, thought that because my kids are generally very happy and easy to handle, they would be even MORE agreeable at wdw....was i wrong!!!! (this is why i started my previous post with the comment that our trip "wasn't what i expected", but fun anyway).

one of my girls became VERY whiney and clingy by the 2nd day there (but with drive time down there, it was our 5th day of vacation) . all 3 of my kids were VERY cranky before bedtime and naptime (so sorry to any of you on the ferry back to FW on the night that my 3 cried, screamed, and squirmed almost the whole trip!)

after being at wdw for 2 days, i realized that our "let's see how the kids do" approach to our trip was not what my 3 (who are used to a pretty routine homelife) needed.....i didn't realize how much my kids needed their routine (i hesitate to call it a "schedule", because i'm far too lazy to be that structured).

so, another lesson learned: don't expect any behavior at wdw that you don't already see at home.

-my kids won't sleep easily in the car or in a stroller at all at home.they didn't on vacation, either

-my kids are used to being confined when they are out and about. they liked the freedom of being able to walk around a bit, but too much freedom gave them too many choices and it overwhelmed them (they didn't know if they wanted to be carried, to walk, or to ride, so they were, at times, unhappy no matter where they were). it took us a few days to learn to NOT give them the option, at all times, to get out of the strollers. also, we learned that when they are tired, my kids prefer the comfort and familiarity of their carseats over the buses, monorails, or boats (even though they loved these when they weren't tired).

- my kids do really well with downtime, so we learned (the hard way) that we had to plan downtime into our day, even with the 3 hr. naps! we learned that they needed about 1 hr. before and after their nap to "chill" before we could push them to do anything

-my kids are used to eating breakfast before they get moving in the morning (we're not morning people). eating "on the run" that first morning in AK taught me that i needed to get the kids up an extra 45 mins early so they had time to wake up and then eat a decent breakfast before we left

despite these "lessons", we had a GREAT time, and we hope our next trip in april (got our POLY reservation confirmation in the mail today- yea!) will be even better....and hoping our return in sept. will be even better!!!! (we're squeezing as much as we can out of the "free before 3" rule!)

take care

I never took my triplets at 2 1/2 but we have taken them 6 or 7 times since their birth 13 1/2 yrs ago. The first time was when they were 3 1/2 and it was by far the best trip. I don't know if it is because it was their first experience or because they were the "perfect" age but it was remarkable. The next trip after that was exactly 1yr later and how they grew and changed was so unbelievable. I say take them now. Hopefully you'll get the opportunity to compare it to them at other ages. I do however think it is VERY important to stay flexible and laid back.

Good luck
