When the phone rang at 2:00 a.m., I KNEW it would be Bobby on the other end of the line!! He was on a satellite phone and twice during our 10 minute conversation, he lost the connection and had to call back. He sounded sooooo good and definately not 7000 miles away from home. It was 10:00 a.m. there and they were doing POW guard duty at a hospital. They've been on duty at this hospital for several days and he said it's been a great experience. The entire town that they are in right now, seems to greatly appreciate their being there.
He said that he's received 11 packages in the past two weeks - "mostly thanks to your Disney friends". So, we know that your packages have finally arrived!!! He also said that his friend Nick has received some packages also from the DIS - one "HUGE" one! Bobby said that for the first time in his life, he's "sick of Triscuits".
He was so appreciative and laughed when he used the term "your Disney friends".
He asked about his brothers and sisters and his house. He was VERY excited to learn how his bank account has GROWN - since he's not here to spend the money!!!!
I told him that I was going to dinner with Fred Dodd's wife tonight and he said, "Really?? I'll go and tell him."
He didn't mention the word "JUNE", but he did say that they've been told that they're going to start getting the Reservists home as soon as possible. I told him I'd renewed his jet ski license plates, just in case he made it home in time to use it!!!
That's it - just so great to hear his voice and know he's well.
Oh....and his dad told him about the "basketball" shot in last week's Desert Dispatch and he had no idea about it. Another week or so and he should receive his own personal copy of the South Bend Tribune - with his front page, colored picture in those shorts. I can hear him now...
