We have been planning on going back to WDW this upcoming Dec but were wrestling with which week to go and that indecision has cost us getting to stay at our preferred resort. :(

Made my request via David's Rentals yesterday for AKV and found out today that the week we are going 12/2- 12/9 is all booked up all across WDW except for one option at Old Key West and a couple at Saratoga Springs, NOT the places we wanted to stay. Back in 2013 I put my request is right at the 11 month window for AKV and it took about 6 days to secure that reservation.

Obviously my assumption that going during a "low period" came back to bite me as I thought there would still be some availability 8½ months out still, but apparently that is not the case. Really bummed at the moment.

Lesson learned for any future trips, book the reservation right at that 11 month window for ANY chance to get a room the resort we desire. UGH!!!!

Yeah, sometimes you learn lessons the hard way. But those are the ones you don't forget either.

Last DEcember I had a room booked at the Beach Club, but when my friend who is DVC was going to join me she tried to book a room that week so we coudl join friends, Nothing, not for that week or the following week, which was the one I had chosen. It is not low season for DVC.

Sometimes things work out. The CSR at David's Rentals explained to me that the week were had chosen was the same week as the Annual DVC Meeting (12/7/17), thus why availability was almost non-existent. That makes perfect sense and was definitely not something we had given any thought to previously. So I had him check to see if our choice was available the following week (12/9-12/16) and it was!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! I'm so excited that it worked out for us. Looks like some early Pixie Dust has found it's way into our vacation. :tinker:

The first two weeks of December are the busiest time of the year for DVC members. Followed by Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. It is very tough to book that via the points brokers because they might not have the resort points you need at 11 months out.

Yeah, the first hurdle was availability(check), now we wait for points to be available to complete the booking. Small steps but it's progress nonetheless. Fingers crossed the points will be available as well.

Good luck! We just switched our 11 month DVC booking from our home resort to AK at 7 months for October. Thrilled to bits! Lovely resort.

As others have said, it's not low season for Dvc. Even in 2010, our first trip, it wasn't low season at that time.

I don't think the meeting has anything to do with it. It's low points and Christmas decorations.

I hope points show up. I'm surprised they checked availability without having points for you. That seems to be an exercise in frustration.

Well it took 3 weeks of patience but I got the email when I got home today, DVC reservation secured!!! Glad our travel schedule was flexible and now we're all set for a return to Kidani Village in Dec!!!! WOOHOO!!!

The first week of December is always busy with popwarner football and cheer competitions.

Yeah, forgot all about that but most of those folks aren't booking DVC rental points and we didn't really notice crazy crowds back in 2013 when we went either from those groups.
