I have a spring break trip planned for March 21-28th. I am thinking about changing it to the first week in May. I am worried about the crowds during spring break. Do you think "spring break 2005" really is going to be busier than it has been in the past 5 years? Also, does anybody think that the first week in May is going to be real crazy with it being the start of the 50th anniversery/Mother's Day?
thanks for your advice :wave2:

The week prior to Easter (the dates you listed) and the week after Easter..WDW is totally sold out of hotel rooms....I would think that May wouldn't be any where as crowded as it will be over that 2 week period...If you are able change your ressie....

The 50th will be crowded but not as crowded

I had no problems with my reservations or PS for the 1st week of May. I just went onto the Disney.com site and had no trouble finding availability 5/1-5/8 at 3 resorts, 1 in each category.

I just got off the phone with Delta, I can change my plane ressie it will cost me $100 but the flight in May is cheaper than in March. After looking over the WDW ressie it looks like it will be a $100 cancellation fee which I don't have a problem with.

I only have the problem taking my 3 kids out of school. DS is in 3rd grade, DD is in 2nd grade and DS is in K. 3rd grader and 2nd grader make all A's, I just don't want the school to be mad if I take them out for 5 days.

Also, my 6 yr old DS could not take the crowds or getting up at 5:45am(due to change in EMH at MK) to beat the crowds for the 2 days I have planned at MK.

I guess I want everybody just to tell me it is OK for the kids to miss some schooling. :rolleyes1

I took DS out of kindergarten for a week last year. I told his teacher but forgot to call the school (duh and yikes...he's my first). This year we were scheduled for a spring break trip(March 17-25) becuase I didn't want him to miss a week of first 1st grade. We have never been during a busy time so I'm sure we would have been shocked. We ended up moving our trip from March to October because I needed ankle surgery. He will have to miss 2 days of school added with 3 days of fall break. As I sit here and type in pain I think I would have preferred a busy spring break trip verses surgery.

Yes!!! Takes them out while you can!!! :earsboy: I'm in college and think that taking kids out of school until 8th grade is fine. Once they hit high school though, and letters from mom and dad don't hold as much weight, and grades matter more for college, it will be much harder to coordinate family vacations. They are so young! Enjoy letting them miss school while they still can! I'm going March 21-30 and WISH I could miss school to go in May instead. It's going to be INSANE in the world this Easter!!! :earseek: :crowded: :earseek: HELP!!!

Oh goodness - don't ask here whether or not it is ok to take your kids out of school! That is always a big debate. That part is really up to you and is the business of no one else but you.

That being said I'm hoping to go the 2nd week of May with my 7 and 3 yr olds :smooth:

Why should people not ask for the opinion's of others on a discussion board? It that not the point of these things? Isn't that why we are all here all the time? :confused3 :confused3

Hey, Tinkerbell...

Just be aware that this IS a hot topic!

Education is hotter than politics anymore! Don't want to mention anything about Homeschooling, problems with teachers, etc... Trust me..

The thing is, how will this go over with your school. What is the official policy? How will the teachers handle it. (With a smile... or STACKS of make-up work.) Is there anything like State Standardized Tests planned? etc... This is what you should base your decision on! :)

We planned our trip for the first week of May before the celebration kick-off was announced. (this will be a short week, as Monday is a second mini-spring-break) Epcot is closing very early on May 5th.. along with the Kick-off at the Magic Kingdom, Spectro, etc... So we will AVOID MK on May 5th. We will be there Tuesday and Wednesday. So, the celebration will be of some consideration. However, I think with planning we will have a wonderful time!

ALL indications however, point to anywhere around Easter being just INSANE!

We will be at WDW same time as you with our 18 year old daughter---any suggestion for her? It will just be her, her Dad and me. Where do you go to college/

I didn't mean "don't ask" - ask away! But I wanted the OP to know that some folks are rather opinionated on this subject and won't hesitate to let her know what they think. Much like pool hopping and putting your towel on a chair to reserve it at the pool and re-using your refillable mug and so forth. As I said "it is a BIG DEBATE" - perhaps she isn't looking for one and maybe she is? I'm just guessing she wasn't. I was trying to protect her gentle little newbie ears..... :goodvibes

We are right there with you on the May trip. We have been taking trips to Disney in May for many years now. The weather is always very pleasant and the lines are much more relaxed then if you would wait and go a few weeks later.

We are also taking our 2 sons out of school for 6 days (M-F and M). The one is a 2nd grader and the other is in Kindergarten. Since my older one picks up on things very quick, he does a lot of his work before he even leaves for his vacation and returns it to the teacher the last day before be is about to leave. That way it makes the teacher happy and he doesn't miss much while he is gone.

Enjoy your vacation and cheerish the moments you can while they are still young

Go in May - This spring break will be far better attended then the last few years. After 9/11 business dropped substantially due to terrorism fears, then we got hit with a market crash that left alot of people feeling like their net worth just took a screamin hit, and then the recession kicked in...etc...

But now - the markets are up to where they were before the meltdown so people who felt their net worths evaporated are back in a better mood, terrorism fears have greatly abated so in the last twelve months we are now back to the same level of flying as pre 9/11, there is more hiring in the economy, consumer confidence is higher then it has been in a good while, and unemployment is back to pre 9/11 levels

personally I would hit the first week of May for sure....
