1st Trip to the Land

Well it's official we will be making our first trip to DL in early May. We fly into SAN mid-morning on the 6th and will drive up to Anaheim, have reservations at the Grand Californian for 3 nights and then back down to San Diego for 4 nights at the Bahia leaving very early morning on the 13th.

We haven't bought any park tickets yet, used points for the air and part of the hotels. Assuming we will do Disney first evening and most of the day on the 9th but haven't planned much beyond that. Probably will do the Zoo one day and Seaworld another maybe pool or beach somewhere in between. We'll take any advice you have to offer! DS 2 and DD 5 will be tagging along with my wife and I.

Almost a little anxious about this trip, we've been to WDW enough that we know what to expect but this...well it's going to be a new experience for all of us.

I think that you should probably devote 3-4 days to DL and DCA. In 2006, we traveled around SoCal and went to Universal Studios, the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. DLR was hands down the best part of the trip...this time we are skipping the others and just going to Disney. But as a first timer, I can see how you would want to experience all of it.

My experiences with differences between WDW and DLR is that DL is smaller, but more charming. Because the attractions are closer to each other, you could do more, but there is a lot more to do. I remember going to Disney MGM (when it was that ) and riding on Tower of Terror, Rock in Roller coaster and Startours, seeing Beauty and Beast and getting bored. It would take way too long at that point to go to another park; whereas at Disneyland, you can just cross the street to DCA.

No matter what you decide, I know you will have a good time!

That's so cool! I hope you have a terrific time. DL is definitely a different overall experience than WDW - but a wonderful one just the same. Being smaller, DL itself is more charming and intimate than MK - but at the same time much more dense attractions-wise. You'll have definite similar experiences as at WDW. I'm sure you'll get lots of good advice from many more DL vets here.
