1st Trip (of many!) as Mr. & Mrs.--the TR-- UPDATE 9/9: Life Update--We're Moving!!

Haha! You're too funny. :rotfl: Well, there are lots of races that have walking races too. The one in OKC has running races (5K, 10K, 1/2 and full), walking races, and even kids races! The kids can keep a log of their miles over the period of a few months, and then they come the day of the race and run the last two or something like that. And then they get a medal and shirt for "running a marathon". I think that when Michael and I finally run ours, we'll try to get my family to each do something at the same race. Maybe they have something like that at the ones your fam is doing... :thumbsup2

That sounds so neat! I still wouldn't even enter a walking race. Not to sound lazy or anything (cause I'm not) but I don't even like to walk. :rotfl: I mean, we go on walks to the playground and around the block in the summer, but that's not too bad. Disney is the only place I'll happily walk at all day long. :goodvibes

Gosh--you make me want to go and start training right away again! I think I'm going to tell Michael that we just need to do this! How many months did you train before the race? Ok--I just bought that book! I can't wait to get it in! It looks really good. We run more like an 11 or 12 minute mile now too. I don't ever see myself being back in the shape I was in earlier. :upsidedow My dad actually read some research that says you should walk 10 seconds every mile. The guy said that it makes you WAY less likely to have in injury. So when I was training, my old running partner and I would run 10 minutes, walk 10 seconds. It's crazy what just a 10 second walk can do to rejuvenate you! I used to run CC in HS, and I had some pretty tough injuries, so I'm scared of re-injuring myself. Was it bad on your legs/back while you were training? I can't wait to actually run a half! You've re-inspired me. Thanks! I agree--I love that running is such an individual sport. I bet the emotions after a big race are just so overwhelming. Thanks so much--and GOOD LUCK to you as you actually run one soon! Let me know when you start your PTR!

I started training about 4 months before the half I had signed up for (I wasn't even running when I signed up for the half, I just figured I'm too cheap to fork over the money and then not do it so that was extra motivation). I couldn't even really do the training program at first as, like I said, I couldn't even do 10 minutes! But I gradually added more time. It really is a great book. There's a few times of reading it that it'll be so inspirational that you'll be like "Yes! I can do this! I want to go run right now!!" :). The guy that wrote the book (who's done LOTS of marathons/halves/10k's/etc.) says that he runs kind of like that, something like he runs for 15-20 minutes and then walks a minute. I had a huge problem with my knees when I first started (I think I wasn't building up slowly enough), but I just made sure I took an anti-inflammatory and iced them after I ran and now I hardly ever have problems (I also have nights when I need to get my run in but if I have any pain in my knees I don't push it). I think it's funny that when I was in high school I thought anyone could do a mile in 7 minutes! Now I'm doing 12 . But it is so fun and the races have such a feel of community, people you never met cheering you on like they were your best friend, people talking to you before and after the race. The atmosphere is just electric at races. There's a fellow DIS'er with the User name heatherlynn444 and her and her husband do runs together (she's a teacher that tries to fit in Bible study, classes, runs, etc.!) that has a really great running blog, here's the link. I find on days when I don't feel like running I read her blog and then it re-motivates me :). I will let you know when I start my PTR (probably right after April 3rd as that's when I'm able to make my ADR's). :yay: Oh, also you can find half marathon relays where you enter as a team and your husband would run half and then you would run the other half, so that's always an option too!

I've always enjoyed this thread because of the trip updates, but now I am getting motivated by it. My DH and I started running and it has been difficult for me and I really wanted to give up. But now I am inspired to keep trying. We are using the 'couch to 5k' method. Hopefully I'll be doing a half marathon some time in the future (way - way in the future). Thanks for the running testimonials!

Hi! :welcome: Thanks so much for reading!! Yay--that's so exciting! Have you ever been to AKV before? Or been in Oct? You will love both! I went in Oct in 06, and it was even cooler weather and less crowds than Sept. I hope you have a fantastic trip! Yes, someone actually told me that right after I posted it. I couldn't believe it!! How incredible. I can't believe people are that talented. :goodvibes

Just got all caught up with your TR, I am really enjoying it! I have stayed at Ak twice when I was a CM at AK (that is how I knew about the eggs). We are DVC members so this will be the first time staying at Kidani!! :goodvibes We always go in Oct for F&W and I agree I love the decorations. It seems like you guys had a really good time, and I love how much you love the world! Since you enjoy Ak so much I wanted to share some photos with you from when I got married, I got ready at AK:

Good for you!! :goodvibes It is so difficult sometimes. I wanted to quit several times before my first (I don't know why I didn't start off with a 5 or 10k :confused3) and there were many days/nights where I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO RUN. So I would tell myself I didn't have to do what I was supposed to do, if it was a night I was going to run for 45 minutes I would tell myself I could do 15 and then stop if I wanted. Most of the time I would get to the 15 minutes and think to myself I might as well do the rest, or I would tell myself I'll do 5 more minutes and then I'll see how I feel, and some nights I would just stop after the 15 and figure tomorrow's another day. I think the worst part is just letting the days get away from you without doing anything and next thing you know it's been a week and you haven't even attempted to run. It isn't always fun but I promise it's worth it if you're prepared on race day!

**And I'll stop hijacking the TR now :)

Another great update! And more awesome photopass pictures...do you guys *ever* take a bad photo??!! I'll say it again...your CD was the deal of the century!:)

Interesting take on Boma. We plan on dining here for breakfast on our upcoming trip. I keep hearing raves about it - hopefully it is more impressive for breakfast than supper. And hopefully there is no ginger in the eggs!

I completely love OMD too. It is right up there with TSM and TOT for me. Seriously! I love the feeling you get after walking out of the film.

Thank goodness you didn't wait 1 1/2 hours for Fantasmic. I have never waited more than 20 minutes, and have always had amazing seats. Thank goodness because I don't think I would have seen it if I had to wait over an hour!

Those photos of the Boardwalk and Yacht and Beach are making me so excited for our upcoming trip. I love this area at nite!:goodvibes

Too bad the transportation didn't work out for you going home. But at least the cab wasn't too expensive.

Can't wait to hear all about your final day, but at the same time, I am very sad that your report is coming to an end!:sad2:

I can see your pictures for some reason today! Work is so weird. :sad2:

I agree with you about Fantasmic. I've seen it a couple times but have skipped it on my last couple of trips. I'm just not all that impressed with it. The first time I saw it, I found it a little boring. I feel the same way about Illuminations too. I think part of what I don't like about Fantasmic, is that once it's over, everyone is leaving the park at the same time and your walking with hundreds upon hundreds of people. I feel like I can't move!

Boma looks nice but I don't know if I'll ever eat there! I've wanted to try it but...I don't know how much I'll like the food!

Beach Club is BEAUTIFUL. It's much quieter than the Boardwalk side and you're still in a great location. Loved it when I stayed there. :)

Hey Staci-
Great updates as usual.
I am really looking forward to seeing the Nemo show at AK. We missed it last time I and i KNOW it will turn out to be one of our favorites also. Your pictures look amazing and just made me wish I was already there.

Too bad you didn't enjoy your Boma meal though. We are eating over there on our third night and I cannot wait to try one of those zebra domes. And now that you mentioned it I will look for the pineapple cheesecake too! :)

You know what? The Great Movie Ride is not my favorite either but I guess you have to do it at least once, right?

AND I think your 14 bucks were well spent on your way back to the hotel.

Have a great weekend!

It really is a neat thing! Haha--no worries. You're obviously not lazy at all since you're a dancer--dancing is SUCH a good workout! But I know that walking/running is NOT for everyone. My mom wouldn't run for anything.

I started training about 4 months before the half I had signed up for (I wasn't even running when I signed up for the half, I just figured I'm too cheap to fork over the money and then not do it so that was extra motivation). I should get that book in the mail early next week at the latest. I can't wait!! Thanks so much for recommending it. And it's awesome to hear your running testimony. I really, really want to run a half! Michael and I decided last night that we'll commit to running the 5K at the church camp we take our kids to in June, and then we're going to try to run a 10K for the 4th of July run here in town. I'd love to be able to run a half either next April or next (it's really tough because Michael has to work Sundays, and most of the races are on Sunday mornings). Haha--I know! I used to think that since I ran a mile in under 7 minutes in Cross-Country, I could do that forever. YEAH RIGHT! :rotfl: We're satisfied with 11 minute miles now. And I'm sure that when we start running more than 3, we'll be even slower than that. Let me know how your race that's coming up goes! And I can't wait for you to start your PTR. :thumbsup2 I'll have to look into those partner halfs! Maybe they'll have one close to us...

I'm getting inspired too! :thumbsup2 I'm so glad it's helped to re-inspire you. And that's awesome that you and your DH are running together. Michael and I love it when we go. I know it'll be tons of fun to do races together. Do you have a specific race you're training for? Good luck as you keep on running!! And I don't know if you have bikes or not, but we've started riding some, and it's great since it's not hard on your back. Maybe you could do that on some non-running days.

Oh wow--you had a lot of reading to do! Thanks so much for reading along! :) How long were you a CM? What an incredible experience! Michael and I want to retire and then work at Disney someday. I've heard so many great things about Kidani. My cousin is staying there next month, and she's SOO excited! Are you going to do a TR? Oh my goodness--we had a fantastic time. We really couldn't have asked for a better vacation.

Your pictures are absolutely GORGEOUS! :goodvibes What an incredible place to get ready and take bridal portraits! Where did you get married? There are so many places at WDW that would be wonderful for a wedding.

Good for you!! :goodvibes It is so difficult sometimes. I wanted to quit several times before my first (I don't know why I didn't start off with a 5 or 10k :confused3) and there were many days/nights where I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO RUN. No worries!! Hijack away! :thumbsup2 It's helping to motivate me. I really, really want to get back to where I can run and run and run. It used to be no big deal to run 5 miles, and now I'm dying after 2. Waiting a week or more between runs is what kills us. We have to just commit to getting out there and running--even if we don't feel like it!

Another great update! And more awesome photopass pictures...do you guys *ever* take a bad photo??!! I'll say it again...your CD was the deal of the century!:)

Aw, thanks so much! Haha--YES. I just don't post those! ;) We did get a fantastic PP deal, though. We literally stopped at almost every single PP photographer we saw! We wanted to make sure we got a lot.

We actually had breakfast at Boma on our last morning (the next post). I'll write all about our experiences then, but I'll tell you now that it was much more impressive than dinner. And, no ginger in the eggs! I'm sure yall will love it.

OMD was definitely one of our favorites. We're just nerds like that. It's fun to see that so many other people like it, though! And I would have been REALLY frustrated if I'd waited 1.5 hours for Fantasmic because it really wasn't that great in our opinion.

It was so gorgeous to look out over the lake and see the Yacht and Beach clubs all lit up. They do such a good job with the resorts. Your trip is coming up soon!! Are you going to write a TR?

Yeah, we were thankful that the cab wasn't super pricey. It was definitely worth it. A 2 hour round trip to DTD and back to the resort was NOT our definition of a fantastic last night! I'm excited/sad to write about the last day! It was a great day, but it's sad that this is coming to a close. I don't know what I'll do when I can't write about our trip anymore--especially since we have no clue when we'll be back to WDW!

AnimalPrincess - your pictures are beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

I agree!

That's so crazy! Sometimes our internet spazzes out and we can't get on anything--at all. And then sometimes it works fine, but just blocks the "normal" stuff.

We agree. They both last a little too long. Both of the shows have really cool effects, but they drag them out to the point where you forget how cool they are. It's just not something we want to fight crowds to see again.

You might really enjoy Boma. I know that a lot of people love it. Michael liked it more than I did, but it was still both of our least favorites. But my cousin's family thinks it's the greatest restaurant at WDW!

I think that if Michael and I ever stayed at an Epcot resort, Beach Club would be our choice. It looks absolutely gorgeous. And it's close enough to walk over to the BW if you ever want to... But it might be REALLY hard to get Michael to stay anywhere else, because he loved AKL sooooo much!

Hi Queila! Thanks so much. You will LOVE love LOVE the Nemo show!! :thumbsup2 It is just fantastic! Beatriz will be in love with the puppets. It's a great show.

If you like sweet things, you'll probably love the Zebra Domes! They're too rich for me, but tons of people love them. I'm more of a fruity dessert person, so the pineapple cheesecakes were SOOO good to me!

I agree. I'm glad we tried it because now we know that we don't like it. There are still a few things that we didn't get a chance to try this trip, and we'll have to try them next time. But I think everything needs to be experienced at least once!

Yes--the $14 were more than worth it. Thanks so much! It was a really good weekend. I hope yours was great as well!

Hi!

Im one of those lurkers :upsidedow who is just now posting (for the first time) to say how much Im enjoying your trip report!

The photos are great and bring it to life!

Can't wait for your final days post!

The use of the Stormalong Bay at BC is totally worth the stay. I stayed in the Villas which is toward the back of the resort and made sure I hit that pool everyday! :) I would love to stay at BW too but the pool freaks me out. I don't like clowns much! :rotfl:

We stayed at the BC our last trip and LOVED it. We can't really afford to do that every trip, but it was a fantastic location. We loved the smell of the BC (sounds funny, but there is a distinct smell and it's wonderful). The pool/stormalong bay is awesome. You don't get the animals y'all got at AKL but it was a nice hotel. We especially loved being able to walk out of our rooms and find ourselves in France within 5 minutes. Literally. Seriously can't beat that walk. However, I think any of the Disney deluxe resorts are probably fantastic! I am dying to stay at the Poly and AKL one day. Sigh.

Hey Staci! Look forward to reading your final updates, and of course hearing all about Boma. I am hoping to fit it in on our upcoming Trip!:)

Yes, I am getting mighty excited about our upcoming trip...less than 3 weeks! Yes, I am going to do a TR for this one...in fact, I have already started a PTR!;) I am doing it for much the same reason you are doing yours...this is the 1st trip in a long time where I don't have another trip booked before I leave, and like you, I am not sure exactly when we will be back!:worried:

Hi! :welcome: Thanks so much for reading--and posting! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. Sorry I've failed to update in so long. Hopefully I'll get that final day up before too long! :thumbsup2

Hi Staci! I started a PTR for my trip if you would like to follow along :) http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=36182641

I subscribed! :woohoo: Hopefully I'll be able to catch up soon!

Ah...it sounds like an incredible resort! Haha--I know exactly what you mean! There are lots of places that I just love the smell. Epcot and DHS are our favorites, so I know we'd love to stay in one of those hotels someday. :goodvibes I'd LOVE to stay at the Poly someday, but since you can't rent points, I don't know if we'd ever be able to splurge that much...

Hey Staci! Look forward to reading your final updates, and of course hearing all about Boma. I am hoping to fit it in on our upcoming Trip!:)

I can't wait to post about the final day--it's just been a MAD HOUSE around here lately. Hopefully I'll get to that really soon!

YAY!!! I can't wait to read about your trip when you get back! I can't believe it's coming up so soon! I really wish that we had another trip in the works, but honestly, it'll probably be years and years. :sad2: But this TR has been a great way to relive it! Have a fabulous trip!! :dance3:

Excuses are like a butt...

Everyone's got them. Some are just bigger than others.
:upsidedow

That's what my dad says. And I must have a pretty big booty because I have lots of excuses......

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry that I haven't updated in a million years! Truly, I wanted to have this entire TR finished a few weeks ago. BUT... Life got in the way. :sad2: SO here come the excuses:

* Work has been INSANE.

From the 7th-8th we had people coming from all over the US and Canada to tour our building. I was a point person, which means that I worked 9 hours straight on Wed and 11 hours straight on Thurs, telling people about all of the different depts on my half of the 4th floor. I went home and collapsed both days.

Then last week and this week I've gotten job after job after job on top of job on top of job. And most of them have been urgent (don't you just hate last-minute stuff?! :headache:).

* We took a random trip to Arkansas two weekends ago.

Friday the 9th was my 23rd bday, and my wonderful hubby planned a special weekend for me! On Thursday night, he gave me an envelope and inside it had a paper that said "pick one" on the outside of the paper. Inside, he'd made a flier that was divided into thirds with three different weekend choices. First was a picnic day in the Arbuckle Mountains: We'd go to the Arbuckle Mtns (we went camping there last fall and loved it!) for a picnic and hiking/hanging out. Then we'd come home and go to a nice dinner and rent a movie or something. Second was a trip to OKC: This was "all-inclusive" in that I could choose to go to some museums, go to the mall and shop, eat at nice restaurants, whatever I want. Then we'd come home and play games or whatever I wanted. Third said "Let's go to Arkansas!": Neither of us knew what was in AR, but one of my life goals is to see all 50 states together, and AR would be close enough for a weekend trip.

I didn't know which one to pick, but I knew that I'd have the day off Friday (from working so much during the week) so I eventually chose Arkansas! We got up on Friday morning and looked to see what was even in Arkansas (we didn't know anything about it) and all of that good stuff. Fort Smith turned out to only be 3 hours from us, so we looked at attractions and decided that there would be plenty for us to do!

We packed up and took off. We got there at 3:00 and went exploring a little to see the old fort and things like that. We also rode one of the earliest ferris wheels in America! We ate dinner at a really nice Italian restaurant in an old Victorian house in the Historic District and then relaxed. The next day, they turned out to be having a Historic Festival so all of the museums were free and they had a reenactment of people from the late 1800s/early 1900s living life and being on trial and going to the gallows. It was SO neat! We also rode on a 1920s trolley street car, and took a tour of their guest center that used to be a brothel. We finished up with pizza at a park, and then came home. It was a FANTASTIC trip! I'm so thankful to have a husband who plans special things for me! :goodvibes

* This weekend I went to a purse convention in Dallas.

I don't know if I'd mentioned this to any of you, but I'm a Miche Bag representative. I don't know if you've seen/heard of the Miche Bag, but it's the handbag with interchangeable shells/covers. I'm in love with mine! I haven't had to change my purse out since October and I've been able to match it to my clothes every day! I do home parties and individual sales. (You can PM me if you want more info!)

Anyway, I had a purse convention for all of the reps in the Mid-South area. People from AR, KS, OK, TX, and LA were all there. It was so great! I have lots of new ideas for my business and I'm hoping that it'll really take off after this. I also got to see tons of new product that's coming out in the future, and it's awesome! It was really good to just talk with other reps and see how they're expanding their businesses and things like that too.

* I've been planning a Disney trip for my mom, dad, and sis.

My dad has a convention at Disney World in June, and I've been helping them get everything planned. I'm pretty sure they're staying at the WL. I've made ADRs for them, and now I'm starting to do day plans. There are other ppl from my dad's school (he's a principal) going, and their kids are going to hang out with my mom and sis during the day. They're all pre-teens or teens, by the way. And then in the evening, the kids and my mom will go back to the resort and everyone will split up and go back to the parks with their own families. So I'm trying to help her figure out what to do without the parents and then what to do the day before the conference and in the evenings with my dad too.

* It's busy time!

We've had something literally every single night since mid-March! :scared1: Mondays we've been meeting up with some friends who are getting married next month and we're going through a book together. Tuesdays I do a Bible Study for college girls at our house (which means I have to clean...). Wednesday is dinner at church, Youth group, and every-other-Wednesday we have FCA after church. So we're at the church from 5:30-9:45 most Wednesdays. Thursday Michael plays for a college group, and I usually go with him since a lot of girls from Tuesday are there. Fridays should be our free days, but we've had something come up every week. Same thing for Saturdays. And then Sundays we have church in the morning, the Youth come over at 4:00 or 4:30 for small groups, and then we have adult small group from 5:30-7:30.

So needless to say, I've been about ready to just pass out. Yesterday we didn't have anything planned after work (a first in months) and my friend ended up calling to see if we wanted to come over since her little girl was home (the dad has custody, and she only gets her 1 week a month, and then some weekends). So we went over there and didn't get back til almost 8:00.

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel though! Only two more weeks of Tuesday and Thursday commitments, because then college will be out for summer! So we'll have a break from stuff those nights until the fall. And we have things on both of the remaining April weekends, but nothing for May yet! So at least there's hope for some relaxation! :thumbsup2

So there they are. My big booty excuses. :guilty:

But I promise that I'll get a post up as soon as I can! Since it's a new day, I don't have the pictures edited and uploaded (I do them all at once for each day of the trip). BUT I'll get to that hopefully tomorrow or Thursday. And then I'll write it and get it up as soon as possible. After our last day's review, I'm going to tell all of our favorites, things we won't be planning on doing again, and anything else I think might be a useful summary! :thumbsup2

Thank you SOOOOO much for sticking with me for this way too long TR! You're all fantastic! :flower3:

Wow, you've been busy!

But that's neat you guys went to Arkansas! It sounds like it was a nice get-a-way for the two of you.

I've seen those purses before! They have conventions?!

You've been quite the busy bee haven't you!!! I know what you mean about weekends being crazy. We have something planned almost every single weekend until the middle of August!!! :scared1: Bridal showers, bachelorette parties, competitions for Madison, weddings, dance recitals.....it's going to be crazy! But, that just means that my Disney trip will come sooner!

Happy belated birthday! That was so sweet that Michael came up with those ideas and let you pick. Lucky girl! :)

I've never heard of the Miche bag. That sounds neat! I'll have to google it. Send me some more info please! :thumbsup2

If I were you, I'd be ready to collapse too! Busy girl!!
