1st Trip - How does this sound?

Hi everyone, after a week or two of browsing these boards, I'm jumping in!!
DH and I are going on my first (he went as a kid) trip to Disney World at the end of September. We are driving down and staying with friends Fri, Sat, and Sun nights and staying at Port Orleans Riverside Mon, Tues and Wed, then driving home on Thurs. We plan to go to either Epcot or MGM with our friends on Sat, Sunday we will spend with relatives in the area and also taking our friends to Emerils ( in appreciation for saving us some $$) Monday- I'd like to hit Epcot or MGM, whichever we didnt' get to on Sat, Tues- Magic Kingdom, and Wed- Animal Kingdom and then Epcot. ( I don't think we are super interested in the Animal Kingdom, so I am hoping we will have time to go back and spend some more time at Epcot) We'd also like to explore Downtown Disney- at least the shops- I don't think we are going to get the Park hopper plus, I think we are getting the 4 day park hopper.

How does this schedule sound? Any suggestions to make our trip even better??

Hi and welcome. Aren't these boards something else. Our trips to WDW have been so much better since finding this place and learning from everyone's experiences.

Your plan of attack looks good. I would definitely plan to do Epcot with your friends on Saturday. It's a great park and there's so much for everyone's interest. You could always end your day there and exit via the International Gateway. That will bring you right over to the Boardwalk area. Some great spots to grab a nightcap or a snack.

I'd plan on MGM for Monday. For DH and myself, this park usually just takes us a 1/2 day to conquer. We've seen all the shows though and have only a few "must see" attractions. Our plan typically puts us in the park in the morning, then we head back to the hotel for an afternoon break. After that you can go to Downtown Disney for shopping and maybe check out Pleasure Island.

Tuesday at MK sounds great. Even on our adult only trips, we always spend a full day here. If you need an afternoon break, hop on the resort monorail and have lunch at the GF Cafe or maybe a spot at the Poly. You can even catch a resort boat and go to the Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness. If the park closes early, maybe one of those spots for dinner instead.

Your idea about 1/2 day at AK followed by Epcot is exactly how we do it. We find AK very do-able in the morning.

My advice would be to check out the park maps and attractions beforehand. Decide on what are must see items for you both. Have a great trip.

WELCOME TO THE DIS

While at MGM make sure you see Beauty and the Beast. We all thought it was the best live show we have ever seen. DH doesn't usually like live shows...he loved B&B and wanted to see it again.

Try to take S.C.'s advice and see the Beauty and the Beast show at MGM. It really is a wonderful show...and the preshow is very fun and entertaining too! While at AK, definitely try to fit in the FOTLK. That is an incredible show. The music, colors, costumes...you'll think that you are at a Broadway show!

Here's another recommendation for seeing Beauty & The Beast, and for arriving early enough to see 4 For A Dollar (pre-show). We absolutely love these guys!

I also vote for a half-day at the AK (you certainly don't want to miss the Festival of the Lion King, the Safari, or It's Tough To Be A Bug) !! Then hop back to another park for the remainder of the day. Personally, I love the AK but I realize that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

You may not be able to see Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom. It is closing for rehab.

Here's the info:

“Festival of the Lion King” theater in Camp Minnie-Mickey is set to go down for rehab from August 25 to September 25 2003. During this time, the theatre will be fully enclosed, with AC also being installed.


I'm a little sad about this. I like the show, but it will be closed while I am there at the end of the month. I'm happy its getting AC though.

Oh and bring a GOOD pair of walking shoes and a second pair to switch off with the first. I have sneakers that are fine normally but if I wear them for more than one day in a row at WDW, I get a blister.

We are arriving Sept 26th, so the Lion King show will be open.

My CM cousin is a performer in the Festival of the Lion King and will be doing other things for about a month! They are thankful to be getting AC though!

Anyway, IMHO, Epcot and Magic Kingdom are each full day adventures. AK and MGM can be done together in one day.

Hit a movie at Pleasure Island West Side!! Great Theatres !!!!
