Ideas for 1st time collector??? (child) Any theme or character easier/better to start off? Will get a few at the Disney Store to start off. Appreciate any feedback! Thanks!!!!!

Hi, Sionna.

Welcome to the DIS Collectors Board! If you're looking for a theme, it's best to go with what you like. The Fab 5 (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto) are the most popular and most commonly used characters, followed by Pooh, Tigger, the princesses, and probably Tinker Bell.

Since you're just starting, you might want to concentrate on trading with the Cast Members first. Track down any of the supertraders in Epcot or Scoop in MK. You can get a lot of good info on pins from them. If you want to try trading with other guests, the Friday night pin meet at the Contemporary would be the best place. Very friendly and comfortable trading environment. And don't worry about Raul --- he's mostly harmless. :D

Well, how challenging do you want it to be? There are lots of some (Mickey, Tink, Donald) and less of others (Walt, movies, Country Bears).

And keep in mind...

no matter what you decide on, it won't matter, because when you start trading and looking at all the pins inevitably you'll find something else you like!

My youngest, Brooke (PoohTrader), started collecting Pooh and Friends because she already liked them (her room is decorated in them, has the beanies, etc). Imagine my surprise when, after a few months of collecting, she announced she wanted to collect Monorail pins! I never would've guessed that one.
