I think this might be my first post to this board - have been lurking ever since we made our ressies back in the Spring! We are planning to arrive at the cabins early on Fri Sept 25th (hopefully by 10am). We are flying in late on the 24th and staying at an airport area hotel and renting a car. We would like to pick up some grocery essentials on the way to the fort. Since our cabin may not be ready when we arrive, we don't want to get too many refrigerated items. Guess we can pick those up at the store at the Ft.
So here are some of my questions:
1. Does anyone have a direct phone # to the cabins front desk so I might call that morning to see if an early check-in might be possible?
2. How expensive is milk at the Ft? May be worth buying a cooler to keep it in till our room is ready? We drink alot of milk!
3. Are there other picnic table/areas to use for lunch if our cabin is not ready? It's DD's birthday and we would like to have a birthday picnic! We are planning to go to the NSVSHP at MK later that afternoon (if the weather holds out!)
4. Sat Sept 26th is a free day for us (other than ressies at O'Hana's that evening, and a few hours at DTD in the afternoon. Any things we shouldn't miss doing at the Ft? Our kids are 14 and 12.
5. What time does the electric light water parade pass the Ft?

Thanks for all your help! We are really looking forward to our visit! :goodvibes

Welcome to the board, we are checking in on 09/20 to 09/26. I have been coming to the cabins for years and we arrive early every time, sometimes as early as 9:00 am. We only had to wait a couple of times for a cabin. The prices in the FW stores for most items is a few dollars more than your typical grocery store. There are tables around the pool that you could use for a picnic lunch. The water pagent goes by the FT around 9:45 to 10:00. The kids will enjoy it there my kids used to love staying at FW. We are planning on checking in and then heading to MK the 1st day. Enjoy!:)

Thanks for the response! Has anyone had a birthday cake delivered to the Cabins? Can this be done?

Hi
We have been the cabins 4 times and got in by 12 noon every time. This is what I do, just to make sure. We usually stop on the way to get our groceries. FW is very expensive. We buy a cheap Styrofoam cooler and put our cold stuff in it. We usually got to Publixs and they have always had them. Or you can have Gardengrocery.com deliver groceries to the Fort. I have heard that FW will keep them in a cooler until you get your cabin and I have also heard the they have let GG in your cabin and put the stuff in the frig before you even get there.

There is a great Picnic area near the pool. Check out TriCirdleD's (TCD) trip report from this Aug. I think it is first come or first serve.

Don't miss the campfire movie!!! Or watching the fireworks from the beach. Or renting bikes and ride to Wilderness Lodge and check that place out. Or go fishing or horse back riding. I think the Haunted Hay ride is going on now too. I am sure others will chime in with some great things to do.

Have fun...I am jealous.

Sinnika,

Just curious...if this is your first post, why does your post count say 299? Anyway, welcome. Someone in another thread mentioned archery near the bike barn. And there's always the pools, rental canoes, power boats, etc. it'll be a blast.

This is my first post to the camping board. I post alot on the DCL board. :goodvibes We are really excited about our first visit to the Ft! We visit WDW about once a year and have stayed mostly at SOG. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge a few years ago and loved that resort too. We have only been to Ft Wilderness for the HDDR, which we will be doing again this visit!:yay: I'll have to look into the archery. DS will enjoy that. And he wants to do the canoes too. DD may want to horseback ride or bike ride. Hope we can book some things when we get there. :)

I was just calling about the different cakes that are available in Disney. They do have a specialty bakery that will make you a birthday cake. I am sure (for the right amount of money) Disney will deliver a birthday cake to your room. THis is a guess on my part. However, most of the table service resturants (not premier dining like Artist Point, etc) have cakes available without notice ahead of time. THey are $15 and only serve 4 with quite small pieces.

I think you would be much better off calling a few days ahead to one of the Publix on the mainstrip and letting them have one ready for you when you arrive in the area. It will be much cheaper and they have great cakes with lots of options.

I will list the website that you can look at Disney's cakes si you can decide!

Enjoy your trip!!

Thanks for the responses! I checked out the cake thread, and while the WDW custom cakes were gorgeous, they were a bit pricey. I have ordered a customized 1/4 sheet cake from Publix that feeds 15-20 for $19.99! :thumbsup2 That way, we'll have cake for breakfast too! :lmao: We'll pick it up on our way to the Ft from the airport.

Now all I need is good weather for our birthday picnic, or to get in our cabin early!

Get your milk while you are there at publix :) Way cheaper. Sounds like you have some great plans. Enjoy your trip.
