Hey everyone.

Im a newbie here so hi to everyone. I'm off to orlando on the 11th August for 3 weeks for my first time in Florida and can't wait.:yay: We are flying with Thomas Cook which I know aren't supposed to be great but the tickets were pretty cheap!
Are the car lighter sockets the same as the UK so I can use my TomTom car charger? And also anyone know how bad the rain is at the times I'm going. Whenever I see a weather report its always got big rainy symbols.

First a big :welcome: and i think that the cig lighters in the cars are the same but will be corrected if i'm not. ;)
Not sure on the weather for that time as we tend to have been once the children have gone back to schol after the summer holidays cause we don't have any young ones to worry about. :confused3
I think August is a very hot month over there but glad to see no matter what the weather your still going. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

ive never been in august so can't help you there !!

welcome to the disboards

Welcome.

We have never visited in August but some of our family have. As already mentioned, very hot and also very humid. Usually heavy afternoon rain showers but they tend to be over very quickly.

Enjoy:thumbsup2

Welcome to the DIS :yay:

We have been in August before and the weather is very hot and humid. The humidity tends to result in thunderstorms forming around mid-afternoon. The rain can be really heavy. Most of the time these only last for an hour or so and things dry out very quickly afterwards.
There may be the odd day when the rain stays around into the evening.

You will need to pace yourselves to avoid being over-powered by the heat. Drink plenty of water and take plenty of breaks in air-conditioned shops, restaurants and inside shows/attractions. Get to the parks early to avoid the hottest part of the day, take a siesta in the afternoon and then return to the parks in the evening.

Weather forecasts tend to be very general and cover most of the Orlando area so even if it forecasts rain it may not rain where you are in WDW :)

Welcome to the Dis, we have been in August twice now and as Tim said it is very hot and humid, with heavey showers into the afternoon, but to be honest sometimes they are a relief to see. Have a wonderful time:thumbsup2

Welcome to the boards, cybernetuk! :flower3:

You've got some great responses already. We've been in August before and we'll be shortly behind you (flying out on 16th :yay: ). Whilst it wouldn't be our first choice weather-wise, it's better than not going at all :goodvibes . You'll be fine as long as you follow Tim's advice.

Some good news - yes the car lighter sockets are the same. I often recommend people take their mobile phone car chargers because they work better than the regular chargers with adaptors.

A big Disney Welcome to you.

I flown with thomas cook 3 times now (premuim seats), and i think they give a good service.

Welcome - I'm sure you'll have a great time. We have also been in August & saw fantastic thunder storms some nights. Have you got a lot planned??

WELCOME TO THE BOARDS

Wow your countdown is gonna be fast!
I hope you get some useful information off here.

Yeah as others have said August is hot hot hot! We could almost time when the rain was coming as it seemed to hit us every day at 4pm! The rain is welcomed though to be honest, it's not like our rain - more like being in a warm shower!

Have a great time and welcome to the boards!

Gems :)

As others have said it's extremely hot, we have been the last 2 years in August and there were times my wife and son struggled in the heat.

It's vital you get to the parks early and have a rest around lunchtime, I am sure many people can stay all day at the parks but we certainly can't especially in the summer months.

Ths big advantage you have is you are going for 3 weeks - which is what we always do now - so there is no need to rush around too much , pace yourselves and you will really see the benefit.

Thanks for all the welcomes and advice!
We have quite a bit planned with the 3 week pass to Disney World, a day at Discovery Cove with entry to Busch Gardens and Seaworld. Not really used to overly active holidays so this should make a nice change! Can't wait to get to the waterparks myself! :yay:
