1st time waitlisting. Question?

I just booked 2 days in a 2bd Pool View for the 2 days following our September cruise. I put a waitlist in for the Boardwalk View, because only one day was available Since the 2 rooms are the same amount of points can I make the waitlist active up to 7 days before or do I still do the 31 days. I'm thinking either way no points should go into holding anyway. Is that correct? TIA, I've never had to do a waitlist before.

Since points are the same, set it for 7 days. If it comes through, points should not going into holding unless the CM makes a mistake (which can be corrected).
