We leave next Sunday, 7/14, for VB. We'll be there for 4 days then head to VWL for 8 days. We will not have a car. Is there anything within walking distance of the Disney resort? We are two adults and two teenage boys (15 & 18), physically capable of a mile or two. Specifically interested in light grocery shopping, liquor and restaurants. Also, any recommendations for activities? We enjoy all types of outdoor activities and the boys still like to be around us - go figure - we are really looking forward to our first trip to the ocean! Thanks in advance.

How are you getting to VB and then how to WDW ? We stayed at VB and although there are a few things nearby we drove a few miles to get to everything like shopping or restaurants.

Hope this helps a little.

I have the same question. A car will add immensly to your enjoyment of the area.

However, if you don't have a car you'll need to either find out buses and cabs or else stick pretty close to the resort. The surrounding area is pretty much residential. There is a pizza place within walking distance and there could possibly be some small convenience store there as well. For restaurants, you'll have to depend on the Disney restaurants, the pizza place or possibly whatever you can get delivered.

At Vero they usually have games and activites planned out a couple days ahead and you will get a list of those event. Also, at Eb and Flos, next to the pool, you can play mini- golf, rent bikes (they should have mongoose bikes for your DS), tennis games and many more. They also, at the beach, give you an opportunity to Jet- Ski, wind surf (that might not be exactly what it is but very similar), rent boogie boards and fun things like that. well i hope this will be of some help!

We are using Tiffany Town Car to get to VB and then to VWL. We have rented a car a couple of times while in Orlando and those of us from the "middle of nowhere" find the stress of driving overwhelming. (Seriously, on my 10 mile commute to work I meet one vehicle - the same vehicle, every morning.) Anyway, we have always found plenty to do without going off-site at WDW and plan on relaxing around the VB resort as well. ~Ann

I'm sure you will find plenty to entertain you at the resort. If you want to do something away from the resort, like shopping, I would get a cab. It can be very, very hot in Florida this time of year....the heat comes right up from the pavement. You'll be okay by the beach and pool but walking the roads would be hot, hot, hot. A1A, the road where the resort is located, is not an extremely busy road but it is a main road that runs along the Florida coast. Okay, to walk/bike but not a quite country road by any means.

Vero is very much a winter getaway for the wealthy. There is a growing year-round population but you'll still find things much slower in the summer months. While there is more than one car, in the summer there will be far less traffic than you encounter in Orlando. If you like Vero and decide to return, you might want to consider the options having a rental car will give you.

Every once in awhile someone asks about transportation to Vero. If you wouldn't mind, could you share the price Tiffany has given you for the trip to Vero?

Thanks for the great info -- we were quoted $360 for Orlando airport to VB, VB to VWL and VWL to airport.

AMS,

I know it is to late for this trip for you to think about a rental car, but your next trip to VB or WDW I would consider, if I were you, to renting a car at the airport. The directions that DVC puts on your confirmation for your resort, is very easy and exact. We just got back from our 1st trip to VB and had no problem with there directions. Then you will have access to the restraunts, if you want to, that are on the main roads (US1, 60, A1A) from the VB resort. For us for the week (June 30-July 5th) we used National Rental Car, and our price was only $190 for a 4dr Grand Prix with unlimited milage. Also, the directions from VB to WDW our very easy and main interstates and turnpikes.
Just something to consider for your next trip. But also you can't go wrong either way at VB. Shutters had the best tasting hamburger-fries, that I have ever had ($6.99).
Have a great trip!!!!!!!:D

AMS -- Thanks for the price quote. That's roughly what I had expected.

I hope you'll share your thoughts on Vero and using a towncar to get there and back. It will be a new perspective. I know others have posted about being reluctant to make the drive themselves.

Have a great trip!
