1st time in Orlando- what should we do??

DH and I will be staying off property for the first time in a few weeks and will have a rental car. I know nothing about Orlando. We won't be going to Universal/IOA or Seaworld this trip (seems like they would all require a full day each).

We would like to check out the area a little; shopping, restaurants, attractions, etc...

What are some of the better or tackier things to do in Orlando and around Disney World?

Where should we eat?

Where should we shop?
(Where should we go to get that ultimate tacky souvie for our friend?)

Our family loves going to downtown disney. There are shops, resturants, etc. We recommend T-Rex or Rainforest cafe for a treat, (they are somewhat expensive) for a bonus treat check out goofy's candy co. My family of 5, each made our own desert for less than $20. DTD is set along a river and can be very relaxing to just sit and people watch too. We like it b/c it's up to you how much $$$ you spend. Have fun!
