1st time homebuyer

Does anyone know of anywhere in NJ or PA where DH and I can attend a first-time homebuyers seminar? We've been renting for way too long and I'd like to own a home. I'd like to learn as much as I can beforehand and not jump into this huge investment without any knowledge.

Hi Rhonda. I don't live in those areas, but many of us around here have some pretty significant experience in real estate and mortgage lending...me included.

Here are a couple of places to start: www.fanniemae.com and www.fha.com ...both can give you some basics.

The "For Dummies" series of books probably has a pretty good version of getting a home loan, and that may give you some clear, concise definitions of information you seek.

Buying a home can be expensive, but it's almost always a sound financial decision. I can't imagine having to rent ever again.

I don't think you'll really need a seminar, per se, to find the information you need. Do some basic reading, and then post the questions you can't find the answers to. If we don't know them, we can certainly get you to the right people to get them!

I found this by googling "NJ homebuyer's seminar" -- it's in Scotch Plains, but maybe other mortgage companies near you would have something similar. You could also check with realtors.

In Pa contact "Pa Housing Finance Agency" They can give you alot of info including seminar and financing info.
If you qualify you can get special interest rates through them too.

In our area the community education department holds those classes, they are the ones that have all the summer stuff for the kids too. Try calling your department like that and see if they have something.
