Just booked our 1st family vacation to Disney -- we have 2 kids, ages 7 and 5 and I want to find a fun, creative way to tell them we're going -- any suggestions??

We're staying at the Pop Century in October!

I actually surprised my DD for her Bday in 2010. We live in NJ so we flew to MCO. I told her we were going to visit her uncle in North carolina. When we got to MCO i tried to steer her away from all disney items throughout the airport until we reached the Big World of Disney store at the airport and then without me saying anything she knew. She was so surprised and excited.

If you want to tell them in advance, you could get them something special. When they see it, say you want them to wear it or use it at Disney World!

Some ideas -
Tim Foster's Guide to the Magic for Kids, or some other guide/activity book
New Disney t-shirts showing their favorite characters
Disney socks

... or anything Disney!

Or, another idea ... before our first family trip, I checked out a lot of Disney movies from the library (& bought the ones I consider "keepers") and we watched them together. I think DD4 enjoyed that trip more because she knew more of the characters, even the Swiss Family Robinson, though we skipped over scary parts of a lot of movies. Your kids might be surprised if you went to the library and showed up with nothing but Disney movies. You could start watching them, and then explain, "we might see (such and such character) when we go to Disney World." Make sure it's a character you're likely to be able to find, and not one they will want to avoid, like Maleficent. :headache:

As for creative/crafty stuff ... um, I'm not so good with that, but I'm sure some posters here will have fabulous ideas.

ooooo I am doing the same-- except we are "supposed" to be flying back home after our week trip to aruba. We are not telling her as we want to see how long before she realizes where we are going.

When you say you had to steer away through out the airport-- is there a LOT?
is she going to know before we even get to ME?

Well the airport has the gift shops with a lot of Disney items. That's what I mainly kept her away from.
