First Time cruisers here and we have a question. We are doing the Eastern 7 day cruise in October and have not booked any of the excursions yet. Just wanted to know if when we get off the boat on either St Thomas or St Martin, can we WALK anywhere? How close is the shopping to the docks?

So far we planned on the St Martin Island Drive and Explorer Cruise ($40/ea), St John...5 star St John Snorkel and Beach Adventrue ($45/ea) and on Castaway Cay...the Getaway Package ($32/ea). We don't have anything planned for St Thomas. Does anyone think we are doing too much for our first cruise? It's just the two of us celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and we don't want to get burned out. We love walking but don't know how close anything is to the boat.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks tons!

If you are docking and not tendering in St. Thomas then you dock right at Havenport Mall, which is quite large, and has everything you could possibly want.

The excursions sound great, and in my opinion, not too much. We did two excursions on our first and LOVED them...

Enjoy the planning. :sunny:

Thanks for the info...but I also don't know what tendering means. Sorry :sad2:

During Certain months Disney docks right at the port, and some months they alternate with other cruiselines for the right to dock, and the others Tender, this is going ashore in small boats (about 10 min), because the boat anchors in the ocean.

There is a website (sorry, do not know it) that gives the tendering schedule ahead of time...

Hope that helps... :goodvibes

We walked in St. Martin and St. Thomas with no problems! I think you have a great plan!

On my last cruise, we docked in St. Thomas and decided to walk to downtown. We did it, but I wouldn't recommend it. Farther than it looks and some areas where hard to walk through (no sidewalk, narrow road, lots of traffic).

There are lots of cabs that will take you from the dock to downtown and back for only a few dollars.

Wow what a flash back. My wife and I cruised last Oct for our 25th. We also did the eastern. On St Maartin we took the water taxi to the shopping area and walked...alot. She had to see every jewelry store there. I tried to remind her of the best jewelry she had from 25 years ago. No good she needed more;). In St Thomas we did the Paradise tramway to Paradise Point. A nice view for a couple bucks. We also did the 5 star snorkle and beach to Trunk Bay. Also very nice. On CC we had the same package you mentioned. Ive snorkled CC before on previous cruises and enjoyed it. After 5 Star though I thought the CC snorkle was fairly plain. In fairness the last time was after a lot of hurricaine damage which we were told it did affect the CC lagoon. We did enjoy the bike ride but never used the mat floats. Next time we plan on switching to the banana boat ride. My B.I.L. said it was outstanding and maybe the parasailing. In any event, have a great time and happy 25th.
