Hello,
It will be the first time my boyfriend (20) will be going to Disney World. What is some advice for first time adult trips to Disney? Where are some things that have to be done? Is there any sort of tips or secrets that would be helpful. Thanks!

A. Plan to have fun!

B. Read up on these boards - there are tons of tips!

C. Relax!

Get a guide to Walt Disney World. I bought The Unofficial Guide Walt Disney World 2010 (Unofficial Guides) by Bob Sehlinger and Len Testa and no complaints so far. :)

Planning an itinerary is really a must because at first I just wanted to go with the flow, but there were so many things that I want to see that I was forced to make my own personal schedule, and I'm going to be at WDW for 8 days, so yes, planning is essential.

You know what your boyfriend's personality and what he is interested in. Use the boards or recent version of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World for suggestions.

My number one recommendation is to use a touring plan to maximize your experiences while minimizing your time in lines. You can find touring plans on the boards, in the Unofficial Guides, or through services like Tour Guide Mike.

In my case, I took steps to avoid our time-consuming (but very polite) arguments:
"What do you want to do now?"
"I don't know. What do you want to do?"

First, I made a plan suggesting what days to visit what parks and water parks. She accepted this readily, especially once I described Extra Magic Hours.

Second, I insisted on a plan of attack for the first handful of attractions at each park, so that we would best avoid long lines. She wasn't happy with my commando tactics until she saw the results: "OMG, Tower of Terror has a 75 minute wait and the FastPasses are gone? I'm so glad we followed your plan." Yes, I took credit for the Unofficial Guide touring plan. Just call me Dr. Evil. ;)

Also, don't forget to allow for spontaneity and flexibility. Some things cannot be helped. Like when I caught a 24-hour gastro-intestinal bug. There was no way we could follow my theme-park-commando plan that day.

I have been to mk and epcot before but not ak or dhs and going on my very first trip by myself what i did each day I am chossing my top rides or attractions to do that day then just enjoying the park the rest of the day so, just like great white north said plan plan plan and have a blast getting ready!!

-use several books and the boards for advice, i borrowed from my local library, they had a ton.
-plan everything, meals, rides etc. i didnt plan quick service meals and each minute down to a science but for the first part of the day it is really important to get the big rides in and fastpasses.
-avoid dtd shopping at night. we thought children would be in bed but they were being dragged store to store and cranky....some parents were even crankier, i got stepped on and ran over by a number of strollers. it was terrible.
-feel free not to like everything and make changes based on that. we hated AK and just ditched out on the park halfway thru the day to spend more time at the pool and in epcot.
-dont avoid the characters! they are loads of fun and very magical. just mention a rabbit and alice gets sooo excited.
