Good morning Laura. Don't have a clue on the riddle but I'll give it some thought today. Now that school's out for the summer, I should have more time for the riddle threads!!!

Well I am here too but don't feel like thinking.

Poor DD is off to take the SATs. She said she feels overtested and not in the mood for another as she is in the middle of exams at school. She just wants to bring her combined score up 40 points then she will be happy.

I'm the mother of a 3rd grader and I feel overtested. This year has just been too much.

First....they did a writing sample. I had nothing to do with it....so it didn't bother me though I was worried about Matt's math oriented performance.

Then....and IQ test. Hate those things. Why bother? Destined to make you feel inadequate in some fashion or another. You're either average (oh, the horror!) or a freak. Or an average over achiever. Or a freak underachiever. YUK!

And to round out the school year.....the NJ ASK test. Another torturous exam devised to piss the crap out of the community at large. Three days of testing for third graders???? Gimme a break. Double secret handshakes....teacher monitoring, no one can look at anything. IT'S THIRD GRADE, GUYS! GET A GRIP!!!

Have I ranted enough? I certainly have HAD it!

Gina I sympathise!!
Around here we have MEAP testing. Michigan Educational Assessment something or aother......... Anyway, there are some funding issues tied into the scores so they really prepare for these tests. When my DD & DS were in 3rd or 4th grade (can't remember which) they prepared for these tests for the entire 1st half of school By the time the tests rolled around in Jan or Feb the kids were so stressed out! There was a little girl who dissolved into a puddle of tears when they put the test in front of her......HELLLLLOOOO...maybe too much pressure on these kids isn't a good idea??!!??
I told the twins that the tests weren't testing them & had nothing to do with their grades at all......no pressure! I told my kids that the tests are actually testing the teachers to see what they are and aren't teaching the kids.

We had MSPAP here for about 10 years. The Maryland Student Performance Assessment Program. It did not give individual student scores but graded the school. Funding was tied to it also. Teachers "taught to the test." It was given in 3rd, 5th, and 8th. By 8th grade, the kids knew that it made no difference in their grades and they wouldn't be in that school the next year anyhow, so most put forth no effort. They were stopped last year.

Lorraine, "schwetti balls" was soooo funny. I laughed 'til I cried watching that. It still makes me laugh when I see the reruns.

Oh I love this!!!!! Too bad my brain isn't working to think of something.

I am just so glad that I do not have any testing to deal with right now. I hated in it school and I would hate to have to deal with all that with kids!

I think we are going to watch Finding Nemo today... just have to look up the times

I ended my year subbing for a fifth grade class and I can't begin to tell you of all the "end of year" tests I had to give those poor kids........not to mention that 4-letter word test!!! (MEAP)
