Just looking for basic recommendations on which timetable you prefer. We will be cruising with a 6 1/2 yr old if that makes a difference.

TIA!

We prefer early seating. Just goes down better with my tummy than eating all that food and going directly to bed.

One note, you're going to get as many opinions one way as the other. That's where there are 2 seatings.

I'm thinking we might enjoy the 1st seating as well, just to give us an earlier break from what I'm assuming will be very busy days. Then after dinner we will still have time to catch some nighttime fun/pools/etc. I guess I am just looking for some confirmation :)

We've always done early seating mainly because we eat early at home. We have also always eaten up on deck, around 10:30 pm, a little something because its there and sounds good & its out of the norm and fun to get to do.

We personally prefer late seating. However in the case of the OP with a young child I'd think that the early seating would be better since it would most likely in line with the child's normal dining times.

we always preferred the early dinner (which actually isn't that early...)

it always felt right doing dinner then a show instead of the other way around

We always do late and usually grab a snack late afternoon.

On our 1st cruise we did Early Seating, our DDs (7 & 9 at the time) did not like it. They thought there were too many "little noisy kids" running around. After that our next 14 cruises have been late dining. But that's just us everyone is different I'm sure.

We love the early seating so that we don't eat too late and then we go to a show or have time to do some activity before bed. But having said that..... you are rushed to get to that early seating. We always seem to be hurrying to change for dinner and get to the dining room. :)

I would go with first we are going to do that in November. On our first cruise with my DD she was 5 and could barely keep her eyes open on the 2nd seating she was so tuckered out!

I'm a late dining lover...
  • ship can be noisy... it's all quiet at midnight for this nite owl.
  • late dining means the later 8am breakfast. I get to sleep in! It also means I get to wait comfortably in the dining room for my discharge time.
  • kids program start right after the 2nd dining
  • I get more port time.
  • I get to see the show pre-dinner. Don't need to worry about making a mess on my shirt.
  • I can have a late afternoon snack if I have the munchies... otherwise indulge on more local port food in the late afternoon!
