I'm a bit nervous about giong to Ohana as I don't eat meat (though DH and the kids do), and there are more choices for me at Kona Cafe. But how does the atmosphere compare?

I vote for Ohana. I don't eat meat, but I will eat shrimp so I was okay. They have activities for the kids throughout the evening like coconut races. We have eaten at both Ohana and Kona and I just get more of an adult vibe at Kona. JMO. Good luck. :goodvibes

Went in August with dd9 and we loved O'Hana's !!!They had a hula hoop contest and the coconut rolling contest for the kids. They have plenty of other options other than meat seletions ,like the other poster wrote(shrimp) and they bring out the first course of food on a lazy susan which I filled up on ! Your kids will love it there...it's definitely kid friendly. It was one of our best dinners! Many of the families dining there were dressed up in matching hawaiian outfits/shirts which I thought was very cute Have fun ! :sunny: We also arrived about 1 hr. early and after we checked in at the resturant we went out and relaxed at the white sand beach and layed in the hammocks taking in all the beauty of the resort.

I don't know how old your kids are or if they're Disney veterans, but if they're young and/or inexperienced with the Disney way, you might do Kona first. When we took our kids the first time, they were 6, 4, and 1. We went to Whispering Canyon the first night. They had no clue what was going on and didn't participate in any of the goings on there. We went back on the same trip, and it was entirely different because they were not tired from travel, and they also "got" the jokes and activities. So O'hana might be a little much if the kids are young and not too hip on some of the craziness at Disney.

I would vote for O'Hana. If your kids don't want to participate in the games and fun, they can just stay at the table and watch. They keep doing it throughout the evening, so they can always watch for awhile, then get up and join in. Also, at O'Hana, you might luck out and get a table with a view of the castle. What better way to get you in the Disney spirit than that? Kona Cafe is great, but really more like a coffee shop in atmosphere. I love their menu and really enjoyed eating lunch there, but for dinner I think O'Hana has a better overall atmosphere. Also Disney restaurants are more than happy to accomodate your special dietary needs. Make sure you tell them when you make your ADR's, regardless of where, that you are a vegetarian. Then reiterate that to your server when you are seated and see what they can offer you.

just back from WDW with a 3 year-old... we'd never eaten at ohana before - it was fantastic! what great fun for children.. and the food was lovely.

Thanks everyone so much.... no, I don't eat any meat so shrimp is out, but I will call and see if they can accomodate me otherwise. The kids are 4 and 9 and this is their 3rd trip to Disney, so I'm thinking they'd be excited and okay with Ohana if it's more kid friendly.

THanks so much.

My youngest dd won't eat the food at Ohana, so they offered her anything on the kid's menu from Kona and charged her that price. I wonder if they could accommodate you in a similar way?

Although I am not a big 'Ohana fan, the salad, potato gratin and mixed veggies are very good. I think the kids will have more fun there ... but the food at Kona is so much better. I am not sure how accomodating they might be for an adult so if you don't mind paying the price to just eat the veggie offerings, you will do ok. And of course the dessert is wonderful (and no meat -- :teeth: )

I only tasted the meat, but did like the shrimp so I didn't feel so bad about paying for what I got, plus that fruity drink with rum made it all seem good. :rotfl2:
