Has anybody 1st graderevery bring homework like this ? He has to do polygons and has to know perimeters , he is 6 yr s old , does any other school do this? He has done this now for 5 months. He has no problems with it but iam just amazed with this since he is my youngest and i never remember my other kids doing this until i think 5-6th grade.

Not here! And our math is supposed to be a year ahead. I'm glad yours isn't having a difficult time with it!

Are you kidding? In first grade, the only way we say a polygon was if someone forgot to feed the class parrot.

Sounds like "Everyday Math"--is that the curriculum your child's school uses for Math???

they introduce concepts at early ages--but do it in a way kids understand. A child can learn what a polygon is the same way they learn what a circle, square, etc.. is

I really like this program, and have seen a big difference in the way students understand Algebra later on--EveryDay Math students tend to be more likely to understand the concepts sooner than students who did not use this curriculum.

Congratulations, you're raising a genius:D

Yep, we did polygons, radius and diameters,pi,perimeter, symmetry, alegebra, graphs and more in K and 1. This year-2nd, they're doing area, more
algebra, angles, money, fractions, decimals, multiplication, division and more that my poor brain can not remember. I think it's great and we are having lots of fun!

I remember doing it 2nd grade if my memory isn't failing me...and I was also lucky to have no problem with it...math has always been my strength!

DD has been studying polygons... she is in first grade also... I was surprised as well but happy... I love math and I hope she learns to love it too...
