Hi,

We're going on our first 3 day cruise to the Caribbean on the Disney Wonder on Feb 1st. I used my DVC points to book the cruise (Category 11).

Yesteday I called member services to try to upgrade my room to category 8 using cash - she said that I had to use more points. While the upgrade is worth it to me if I pay the additional $320 shown on the Disney Cruise Line Web site, it's certainly not worth the additional 88 points (44 points x 2 people).

When I arrive at the ship, can I ask if upgrades are available for cash (Feb 1st can't be the busiest time of year for a cruise)? What are my chances of upgrading same day for cash. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you might be able to give me.

Best wishes,
Dave

Its certainly worth asking about, but don't expect there to be any availability. You've got nothing to lose by asking.

yes you can upgrade using cash when you checkin. if they have anything available

We've done this actually... we upgraded from a cat 8 to a cat 6 at the port while checking in. If there is availability, the upgrade price is generally even less than the difference between two categories at the port.

We love cat 11 rooms too though :)

My experience is you can subject to availability but the price is usually the difference between the rack rate for each cabin.
