Wanting to plan my first trip to Disneyland somewhere around late May/ early June 2016. With a park hopper ticket, how many days should I plan for to really experience both parks and DTD?

We went for 4 days on our first trip and did not see everything! But that just enticed us to return... If time and budget will allow, I would suggest the 5 day park hopper ticket so you can relax and come and go as you please!

At least two to see both parks
Three to see mostly everything
Four to do everything
Five or more if you want to take a break and do something else like Universal, Beach, Knotts, etc...

I also vote for the 5 day park hopper! We always go for at least 5 days when we visit so we don't feel rushed. We like to take a mid day swim break and sometimes a nap if the parks are open late.

We always go for 5 days. That allows us to do favorite rides more than once, take a midday break/nap if we want, and not feel rushed. There's always things we don't get to though and we never do F!, fireworks, or WoC. Now if time and/or budget are an issue I would suggest a minimum of 3 days.

Happy planning!

We went for 3 days our first trip, knowing that we wanted to go back. We took a couple hours break each day and still rode a lot of rides and met most of the characters.

That said, we are planning 4 days for our next trip, just because we had a blast and want an extra day to enjoy all the awesome stuff Disney has to offer.

At the minimum, do three days if you're really concerned about doing and seeing enough to feel like you really experienced the parks.

As many as you can. We were there for 2 weeks and experienced everything we could that was up and running. I would say 5 days minimum if you really want to get a large amount of stuff done and not feel rushed.

4-5 days. We always do 5 and its such a nice relaxed pace to be able to tour the parks in. Its hot and your tired, you can go back to your hotel, you are tired from the previous day and want to sleep in a bit you can hit the parks later and not feel you are cheating yourself.

If you want to do most rides and see all the shows, then I would say 4 days to be comfortable. If you want to do EVERY ride and show, then probably 5 (some people hate getting wet or heights, etc.. and skip some) California Adventure can probably be done completely in 1 full day. If you are on a budget, you can probably get to most stuff in 3 days if you had to, 2 if you super-plan and hustle. Downtown disney is a couple hours max if you don't stop to eat a meal and just casually browse the stores. If you are not going to the parks on your arrival day, I would recommend DTD for that. If you are the type that likes to wait for the best views of every show, eat long meals at service restaurants, etc... add time accordingly.
