I have a friend who just booked a pkg thru Disney and was hoping for a 2BR OKW, but got a 1BR SS. Then this am she got an email saying that a 1BR room opened up at OKW and did she want to switch. I had convinced her to stay at OKW vs CB and AK, but we've never stayed at OKW or the new SS.

They are 3 adult women travelling with 2 boys aged 9. I told her location might be better at OKW and that I've heard the rooms are bigger. I thought the pool might be more interesting at SS and of course it's brand new.

What else?????? She probably already had to respond, but this will likely happen again if she said "no" and stayed at SS and I want to give her more info to be better informed.

They are going 11/4-11.

Any info would be appreciated.

:D

are they going to do a girl night out at PI - then definitely the SSR - however if not - then a 1-bedroom at OKW is bigger room wise.

you realize this is a group of 5 - and only 4 are surpose to be in a 1-bedroom.

Hopefully, a 2 bedroom will open up for them.

Since they booked the package through Disney, I have to assume Disney is OK with the party of 5 in a 1 bedroom. However, I'd be very concerned about the sleeping arrangements. The 1 bedrooms have a king bed in the bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Hope the OP's friend knows this - not sure how I'd do 3 adult women and 2 boys with that bedding!

Maybe OP knows she wil have to bring aero bed or equivalent as well as extra bedding. Sure hope Diseny told her!

Best wishes -

Okay, let's not get into the "party of 5 ina 1BR" debate that's not supposed to be on these boards in the first place. Disney booked it knowing full well that she had a party of 5, she asked for 2BR or equivalent and they hope that a studio will come thru. If not I've already given her the "buy two air mattress lecture" for the boys...and they'll be fine.

Let's assume that that they have a 2 BR.

But what about SS vs OKW other than the size of the room? Anybody else stayed at both and can give an opinion about location, bus convenience, the pools, etc.?

Thanks.

look at the pictures - SSR is not like OKW in design at all - OKW is lay back - SSR is definitely deluxe - a like laid back - it depends upon what your friend wants.

for that amount of people I would go with OKW - just for the bigger rooms.

SSR right now has a slide - next year OKW will have one.

both have quiet pools.

OKW you are never far from a quiet pool or a bus stop.

SSR DVD is still building this - so if this bothers your friend then OKW - however as I say - if she is planning on during a girl night out at PI - then I would go with SSR - she can also walk to DD - you can easily walk to West DD from OKW - but the MP is harder from OKW than SSR.

SSR style is very sophisticated (spelling?) compared to OKW.

which do you think your friend would prefer?

First you are over the limit. What I would do is try to get a 2 bedroom anywhere at DVC. There is only one bed in a one bedroom and it is a king. Try the wait list.

One thing to consider - The main pool at OKW is scheduled to be shut down during that time for building the waterslide. If the boys like spending time in the pool and like a slide, they might want to consider SSR. OKW guests will be able to use the SSR pool, but will need to drive or take the boat to get there.

Thanks lizziepooh your's was the comment that "breaks the bank". I forgot the pool would be closed at OKW and with the two boys they'll definitely want one.

Thanks spiceycat......two of them might do a girls night out and leave grandma with the boys, but I'm not sure. I'll have to inquire. I did encourage them to look at Wilderness Lodge as well.....but I think she had the room on Friday at OKW but by the time she called back on Monday the 2BR's were gone. I should have made her book on Friday...that was the error. I honestly didn't think she was going to go for DVC rooms. I thought she was going to take CB.

And yes pa@okw95 they are on the waitlist for a 2BR.......I should NEVER have mentioned they were 5. Disney BOOKED IT and she's NOT trying to cheat. She's actually trying to pay $1000 more.

OKW is definitely going to have more space to but the air matresses. SSR will be a tight fit even in a 1-bedroom. Unless they plan on spending a lot of time at the room, I don't know that I would let the "pool break the bank".

RweTHEREyet I hear you......, but I forgot about the pool when I was convincing her to take OKW over CB because of the size of the rooms and it's location.....and pools are important to 9 yr old boys. Unfortunately, SS wasn't even on her option list on Friday so she sort of thru me a curve this am when she told me she was confirmed there.

I'm still looking for some more feedback on SS and the transportation thing. I'm looking at back posts.

We don't take the busses at all so I'm not a good one for helping her make that part of the decision between the two resorts.

We use bus transportation at WDW all the time. It is very well run, but you need to understand that it is basically a resort to venue design. Resort to resort travel takes a change in bus and an understanding of what option will get you there the quickest.

That said they may be doing something special between SSR and OKW when the pools are closed. You should ask.

I believe the OKW boat to DD also stops at SSR.

the main pool will be closed - but OKW has 3 other pools - the one by Turtle Shack is not the main pool but a good choice.

of course I like South point better - but this pool is very small.
