1B or Studio...I'm so conflicted!!! UPDATE: Booked the 1B

I'd try for a Preferred View Studio at BWV. Since you are only going to be there for 3 days, a studio will not make you start feeling closed in and you probably won't need a washer/dryer. If you're like us, you won't spend much time in the room anyway. The most we ever spent in the room was a studio at VWL one week when it rained most of the week. We never felt it was too confined.

A PV would be really great for a special vacation for the two of you, especially on the week-end. Lots of activity. One of the singing acts performed right under our second floor balcony for us. You'll have a Queen bed and a sofa-sleeper, so you'll have more walking around room than at OKW where there are two Queen beds (one of which I assume you wouldn't use).

My other reason for recommending a studio is that once you start borrowing points, it's hard to catch up. We did that our first two years and ended up buying more points! And you will need those 1BR and 2BR for most of your future trips with the kids.

But whatever you end up getting, have a great trip!

Thanks everybody for your help. I called MS a couple days ago and got the 1B at BWV. It isn't the Boardwalk View, but that really didn't much matter to me.

DW was pretty impressed with the Boardwalk Inn/Villas when we visited the area on our honeymoon a few years ago (staying at POFQ, no less). Right now she still thinks we have the OKW Studio for 3 nights, and I'm going to try and keep this a secret until the trip. She won't know what to think when I turn the rental car into BW.

Again, thanks for all of the help. I'm really happy with the decision to go with the 1B. You saved me from a case of "buyer's remorse". :teeth:

Excellent decision.

Did you try requesting the Village Green view? It's almost a boardwalk view, but considered preferred.

Have a great time!

So glad you decided on the 1 bedroom. As others have posted, you will NEVER want to go back to a studio again! ;) Personally, I think the studios are only good for renting. I purchased DVC to have access to a home away from home, and that means everything from a 1 bedroom up. We stayed in a studio once when it was just the 2 of us, and never again!

I especially like the idea of it being a last minute surprise for her.

I only see us using the studios if it is an alone trip for me or a hopefully few and far between commando theme park trip when the parks are open late. For those I just need a bed somewhere.

I did a short stay at the All-Star Sports a few years ago on my own after a business trip and I bet I was not in my room 6 hours a night for 3 straight days. I hope those trips are over and I will look forward to a one bedroom for the 2 of us or 2 bedroom when we take the kids. Just maybe someday even a grand villa.

You made the right decission and wont regret it. My DH was the type to say " We can stay in a studio all the time it is just a room". Well when he saw the 1br he changed his mind in a heart beat. He says staying in a one 1br makes him feel pampered. You'll be spoiled after your 1br experience. ::yes:: ::yes::

Considering that you only have 150 points a year I would sitck with a studio to conserve the few points that you have.

Will you be in the room very much? If you will be, go for the one bedroom. If you will not be, save the points. Get the 2 bedroom when the kids are with you. You will then get that master room with the tub to enjoy when the kids are in there room.

If it were me even if we were going to be alone with DH (not possible for many years (youngest is 13 but I think they will all want to come with us forever))

:p :p

I would still go for the studio. We would never use the living/kitchen. All we would use is a bed, shower and a balcony.

I bet a studio will be available at BW soon.

Jaysue,

I have seen that those who have more tend to save more and are more careful with what they have. Then some have alot and spend alot.

Disney has made DVC possible for many of us. Points being higher on the weekends, lowers points during the week. It also gives me a reason to explore other parts of Florida for the weekend. I want to avoid the crowds anyway. Then I can stay more weekday nights. Works for me.

Okay. We had a 1-bdrm. booked for myself, dh and 10 y/o dd for this August. DD was thrilled to sleep in living room area. Looked at it as her own room! But, we decided to go again for Thanksgiving. Since we are one of those 'poor cousins' who can't afford to stay properly since we have only 150 pts, we decided to change over to a studio for both trips.
After making this decision, I decided that maybe I hadn't really gotten enough points. Tried to buy more but, nope, can't do that anymore unless I do a resale. And there aren't all that many with a June use year at Boardwalk. So, I'll just try to make do with my meager 150 pts. After all, we originally intended to go every other year and stay in a 1 bdrm. But, now it's at least once a year. I refuse to feel like I'm not really a DVC owner or that I can't afford it. I got what I thought I needed and then changed my mind and then found that I couldn't easily get more points.

Now, maybe when SSR is near full, they will go back to waitlisting for more points. But until that happens, I'm stuck with 150. What's a girl to do???

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if you purchase resale you can get whatever "use year" you desire. That is, of course, depending on whether you want to keep track of points with different use years. I know there is a program to help you manage your points: http://web.nalu.net/~wneth/dvcplanner.htm
If you really wanted more points at BWV goofy4tink, I wouldn't let another use year hamper your plans.
Now I may be wrong on this, but I thought it was only if you purchased add-ons through Disney that it had to be the same use year ?

I own over 600 points at BWV but I usually use them to bring my family down to Disney World because none of them could afford to go and stay in such luxury. we have been alone on several trips but it really is much more fun for me in a group. We never exceed the limits but we always use up every available bed whether its two bedroom units or grandvillas. I'm sorry some here feel they are better than others and if you don;t then you should reread your posts to see how they sound. DVC is sold as a way to make magical memories with your family. If I had a 150 points and my family was four adults a studio or one bedroom could be just fine. I can't tell you how many times my relatives who have to share a studio have been overjoyed to just have the chance to be at Disney World. If I paid cash we would never be able to get anyone to go with us because they couldn't afford it period. So I'm glad that 150 points is the minimum allowed so more people can make magical memories with their families.
