Hey. So, this summer in June, my family and I are going to WDW with my older sister, her husband, and their kids. I've been to WDW a dozen times with my family and my brother; I'm 21, and I still LOVE everything WDW has to offer.
This summer when we go, however, my 19 year old boyfriend is going with us. We've been together for about 2 and a half years, and he has quickly come to know my (and my mother's) obsession with WDW. I'm trying not to overwhelm him with all of the WDW goodness, because I know it's not completely "his thing".
He's excited about EPCOT, because I showed him pictures of all of the different countries, and he thinks that is awesome. I've showed him some stuff about Disney Hollywood Studios (always MGM to me), and he seems kind of into that, too. He's pretty into the Animal Kingdom, too (from what he's seen of my pictures and WDW research).

And, so, my question is: how do I get him more excited (or at least more tolerable) with the Magic Kingdom?

The MK is my favorite park, and I know my nieces and nephews are going to adore it, too. This is technically my boyfriend's first trip to WDW, because he went when he was 3, but that doesn't really count. We're still huge goofy kids ourselves, and I know he's going to love WDW, but I just don't want him to go into the MK with a "kiddie" view of it.

Sorry for the long post, but any advice on how to hype my 19yr old boyfriend for the MK?

Pirates of the caribbean
BTRM
Splash mtn
Philarmagic
hall of presidents
the haunted mansion
buzz lightyear spaceranger spin
I'd add space mtn but it will be closed(rehab)

Wishes Fireworks
spectromagic parade

just leave out
Dumbo
teacups
pooh ride

and play up the really cool rides that aren't just for kids

I have a nephew(30y/o) in the army that LOVES MK - its a Magical place

I can't imagine he won't love it - most folks do;)

sue:goodvibes

Yeah, I know he'll love Splash Mountain, POTC, Buzz Lightyear, and the Haunted Mansion. I think I heard the Hall of Presidents is going to be closed when we're there, and I know he would have liked that (cause he's a nerd haha). He would have liked Space Mountain, too.

He's gonna have to ride Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan with me. I think he's come to terms that I love all the kiddie rides. Plus, my younger nieces (7 and 2) and my nephew (4) are in love with him, and they've already said what rides they are gonna want to ride with him.

I'm gonna play up all the "kiddie" ones so he'll have more fun, and he's already given me the "if you're having fun then I'm having fun" line. haha

I'm just afraid he'll be so overwhelmed with it all. haha And I already told him that if he needs a break from the "kiddie Disney stuff" and the little kids, we can go off and have a break.

I'll try and give you advice based on what my two older cousins (21 and 23) like the most in MK.

- POTC (watch all 3 movies to get really pumped up, and the drop at the beginning is a mini splash mountain)
-Splash Mountain
-Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
-Space Montain
-Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin (my 23 year old cousin has said this is his favorite ride in ALL of disney. he really enjoys trying to beat everyone else in our family)
-Jungle Cruise (who cant help but laugh at the corny jokes;) )

They never realy ride the "kiddie" rides but they still enjoy going to MK and find themselves busy the whole day. They also always HAVE to have turkey legs.

And even if he doesn't enjoy any of the rides there is Wishes. Wishes amazes everyone and I'm sure he'll be amazed too. Get him hyped up for Wishes if all else fails.

Just keep reminding him that MK is the heart of disney and that its one of the most magical places in the world. Once he gets there I'm sure he'll love it!!!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!! How did I forget about the Jungle Cruise? He'll love that! :rotfl2: I know he's going to love POTC for obvious reasons, too. I'm sure Buzz Lightyear will be a huge enjoyment for him. I can already see him and my dad competing for the winning game, because they both already have on-going "championship" games on wii baseball and wii bowling. haha
I know he'll love The Haunted Mansion, and the end of Splash Mountain. I just wish Space Mountain would be open when we go this summer.

He's stoked for EPCOT with all the countries and different foods to try. So, turkey legs in MK will definitely be a must for him!

He knows I'm gonna want to ride "kiddie" rides like Peter Pan's Flight (my favorite!), Winnie the Pooh, and Snow White. Plus, he knows my nieces and nephew might want to ride certain rides with him. But, I've told him that I know it's his vacation, too, and he doesn't have to ride all of this "kiddie" rides whenever he needs a break from overwhelming Disney magic. :)
I know he'll love MK once he gets there, and I've told him that if he ever needs a break, him and I can go shopping down Main Street or get an ice cream.

oh, and Saratogadreamin09: I wish that I got to have MY sweet 16 in WDW! Lucky! I hope you have a blast! (I'm sure you will!)

I just KNOW y'all will have a blast!:cool1: Don't forget to make sure he has seen "Peter Pan" before you (I mean WE;)) go so when he rides that ride he'll be able to relate to it more. I think that will make it more enjoyable. Also, I think he might enjoy the Monsters, Inc. show over in Tomorrowland (you will too!). Plus, it's air-conditioned and has comfortable seating. A great way to cool off and relax!:thumbsup2

Ooooohhhh!!!! Monsters Inc show over in Tomorrowland?! NICE!!! :)

And, oh, he knows he's going to have to watch Peter Pan soon!! For how long we've been together and he still hasn't watched it with me yet?...shameful. haha

I had the same issue the first time I took my husband to WDW. The thing that worked well for me was casually pointing out how unique Disney is in comparison to other parks. He fell in love with the theming and even how creative Disney is in designs while in line. He now enjoys things I never thought possible.

Oh, yes! Jared trying to pull the sword from the stone?! SUPER cute picture!!! haha He knows I'm going picture-taking crazy, of course.

And, yeah, it is definitely unique. I think he'll see that rather easily. He's real into animation, like Pixar and stuff like that, so I think he'll like some of those aspects, too.

I'm just so excited. He's showing it a little, too. hehe:thumbsup2

Thanks!!!!! I am so excited for it, even though its a year away I'm already planning ever little detail and I'm not a planner. I think I'm jut rreally excited because its going to be my best friend first trip to disney, I love going with first timers.

I'm sure you'll have loads of fun on your trip!!!!!!!!!!!

Omg, you'll have a blast! Especially with your best friend!!! I'd be planning already, too!! haha

I love going with first timers. I can't wait for this summer because of my boyfriend and my little nieces and nephew. That'll make it so awesome.

My boyfriend has never been to disney world. well like two summers ago he went to MGM with his friends, but i don't count that lol. Hopefully we'll be able to go soon though. I hope you enjoy your trip with your boyfriend! I'm sure he'll love MK, and if he doesn't at first i'm sure it'll grow on him haha.

Yeah, mine went when he was 3, and I don't count that at all! lol He'll love MK, and if he doesn't at first, I'm pretty sure it'll grow on him. He's still just a big kid. lol

No worries! When he gets there he will be amazed by everything and will quickly forget he thought it was for kids. Just relax, dont put any pressure on him and enjoy! Follow his lead and I bet that by the end of the trip MK may be a favorite of his too. I love all the parks but MK is something special :)
