Does anyone have a list of all the Disney Hotels from 1976?
1976 was my first trip with my mother. She said we stayed in a Disney hotel but she doesn't remember the name. I'm putting an album together as a Christmas gift and would love to be able to add the name of the hotel. It's not any of the existing hotels/resorts and its the the Disney Golf Resort.

Your help is greatly appreciated...

If it was a golf resort it would have been Shades of Green. I'm not sure it was open that far back though although when it first opened it wasn't a military resort. I just looked it up and the only actual on site resorts open at that time were CR, Poly and Fort Wilderness.

If it was the golf resort then that was the name - the golf resort.

The only other Disney hotels at that time were the contemporary and the Polynesian. There weren't any others so if it's not one of those three, it wasn't a Disney hotel.

I'm guessing it was probably one of the motor inn properties - Dutch inn, Travelodge, Howard Johnson, or one other. Of those the Dutch Inn was the largest.

It wasn't the Golf Resort. Shades of Green was originally Disney Golf Resort and in 1986 changed to Disney Inn...then changed to Shades of Green.
Thank you for trying to help! :cutie:

Interesting...I'll look up the Dutch Inn. I have pictures of the pool. She's convinced it was a Disney hotel, but it was such a long time ago she may not remember. Thank you so much...

The Dutch Inn and the HoJo both basically functioned as Disney hotels at the time. No one stayed there who wasn't going to Disney.

One of them was the Royal Inn. I stayed there with my sisters back in 1974.
Disney ran a bus service from the hotels to the Magic Kingdom and they advertised it as staying in Disney.

I have good memories of the Dutch Inn. Back in the days when DS was called the Lake Buena Vista shopping Village. I remember they had a great breakfast. But they weren't a Disney resort.

Thank you all...this is all very helpful. The Royal Inn does sound familiar. I'll have to look at some pics and see if it looks familiar.

That's exactly what my mom said...thanks again! :thanks:

Was it Ft. Wilderness? That's the only other resort besides Contemporary and Polynesian that was open at the time.

Actually, the Disney Golf Resort aka Disney Inn aka Shades of Green opened in 1973 so it was there.

This is true. I stayed there in 1976 and we had a grand time. The rooms were HUGE too. I remember the "feature" pool with it's little aggregate stone fountain in the middle of it. Fun times during the bicentennial.

Don't forget the Lake Buena Vista village was open then too, with it's townhouses and treehouses. Those started construction around 1974 and I think were open by 1976.

We had one of our best breakfasts ever at the Disney Inn. I remember it was a beautiful place. I am glad military families can now enjoy vacations at the site as Shades of Green!

I'd love to compare pictures with you; especially if you figure it out. I'm in a similar boat, but my pics are 79 or 80. I have a picture of the bed and the pool :) It's been ruled out by someone that it was NOT the Polynesian.

I have pictures by the pool only. I now know it wasn't the Contemporary, Poly, Ft Wild, or Golf Resort by the pictures. I think it was probably The Royal Inn, My mother thought it was the Disney Inn (Golf Resort) but the Disney Inn didn't open until 1986...10 years after our first visit.

If you all post the pictures it may help.

I know the Dutch Inn was there in April 1973 because we spent our honeymoon there -I do remember that much of it was still under major construction, but our room was beautiful.

It actually opened a year or two after the Magic Kingdom/Contemporary/Poly etc. 1986 is was renamed to the Disney Inn
