We would like to do a buffet at one of these MK-area resorts on one night during our vacation. I made a ressie for 1900 PF based on the menu being more expansive (I think) and the fact it was the most expensive (we are on the DDP :)). Also, I thought it might be nice to visit the most expensive hotel in 'the world' during Christmas-time to see the pretty decorations. The menu at Ohana's looked pretty limited, and I just wasn't sure about Chef Mickey's.

Have I made the right decision?

Or I suppose I could go to the Crystal Palace also, since we were planning to leave for dinner and return for the EMH.

I guess it depends on your family and if you are going for the characters or for the meal...

I've done all three, and I have to say I didn't care for dinner at 1900 Park Fare, the food was unimpressive to me (breakfast was better). Chef Mikcey's was fun for the atmosphere, but the food has gone downhill in the past few years. Ohana's is good if you are a big meat eater, well even if you aren't (I'm not) there are still other things to enjoy like the yummy bread pudding.

Overall, this year I only rebooked Ohana's and 1900 Park Fare (breakfast only), but like I originally said it really depends on what your family likes. I don't regret doing any of the 3, I'm glad we had the experience of trying each of them as they are all different.

Really, it'd be good to try all 3 at some point, so just decide which to try first!

Actually it would be fun for you to visit all 3 of the hotels on the monorail at Christmas time to see the decorations. You can very easily do this. From MK the monorail stops first at the Contemporay where CM is located, then the Polynesian, where Ohanas is and finally the Grand Flordian, where 1900 Park Fare is.

As far as which restaurant, choose based on which menus appeal most to you. CM & 1900 Park Fare are buffets, but Ohanas is a family style served meal. Your waiter will bring your food to you at Ohanas.

We like Chef Mickey's for the excitement. There's a great line up of characters to interact with there, but it is also very noisy & I've read more poor reviews of it lately - but we're still going :thumbsup2

Crystal Palace is another one we like, we find the buffet to have lots of options plus you've got Pooh & friends there, it's conveinently located inside MK. If you choose here for dinner, I'd recommend doing the round of visits to the monorail resorts around lunch time & perhaps having a less expensive counter service meal at one of them while enjoying the decorations.

Have a great time & hope your visit & flight to the U.S.A. are magical :wizard:

Of the three you listed, we have been to both Chef Mickey's and Ohana several times each. We definitely prefer the food at Ohana. We have a very diverse family of picky and non-picky eaters. I don't care for the meat so much, but love the salad, appetizers, noodles and dessert. For kids, they bring out a wide variety of items (now upon request - they used to just bring them to us automatically.) Our kids had chicken tenders, mac and cheese and I can't remember all of the other offerings - but there were quite a few. We also prefer the family style to buffets - food has always been fresh, no juggling plates, etc. But dinner at Ohana means no characters, but they do have lots of activities for the kids. Our pre-teen boys feel they are outgrowing the entertainment there so we'll skip it for the next couple years. But the food is great, and I'm sure we'll be back at some point!

Good luck with your decision!

I looked at the reviews for all four while doing my own dining research. I made a decision to go to Park Fare 1900 for sure because that's the only time you can interact with Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella! The last time I interacted with a villain was over ten years ago!

Like everyone else has said, it depends on your family and what kind of food you like. Crystal Palace most definitely if you have kids under the age of eight, Ohana is probably on par (though I never been to that one). I've seen too many bad reviews for Chef Mickey's, only go there if the kids are purely focused on the character interaction and not the food. Good luck deciding! :wizard:

The only one I have not been to is Chef Mickey's, although the majority of reviews I have read seem to be negative. I did not care for 1900 Park Fare - compared to other buffets (Crystal Palace, Tusker House, Boma) I found it to be extremely limited, and nothing on it was very memorable. Although the character interaction is good, it took at least an hour for everyone to make it to the table and everything seemed hectic (I can only imagine it'd be worse around Christmas).

I really liked both Ohana and Crystal Palace. Two very different experiences (family style vs buffet, non-character vs character meal, resort vs park restaurant), but I don't think you will be disappointed in either. I was surprised at the variety and the quality of food at Crystal Palace - for a buffet in the park it definitely exceeded my expectations. The character interaction was great, and they were making rounds in a clear, observable rotation so that I didn't worry if I'd miss someone while at the buffet.

Ohana gets my vote. 1900 we did once and it was just so-so. CM we have done several times for breakfast and enjoy it, but Ohana for an evening meal is really good, and immersive in the spirit of it all.

Crystal Palace was the winner of best meal on our last trip. It does have pretty consistant reviews of being good. While CM's and 1900 the food is generally just alright. Ohana is hit or miss for many people. We have been to Ohana several times and have not had a bad meal or experience. Ohana is not a buffet, but an all-you-care-to eat meal that is served and they do not have characters at dinner.
