1900 Park Fare or Akershus?

We are trying to decide between dinner at 1900 Park Fare or a late breakfast at Akershus. Location is not an issue, since we're looking at 1900 Park Fare for our arrival night, and we're staying at the Polynesian.

We are bringing our 3-year-old princess-obsessed daughter and teenage son. Our other ADRs are CRT for dinner, Via Napoli, and breakfast at Ohana, and we're on the dining plan.

I think my son would enjoy the step sisters, but I hear they're not always there. Has anyone had that experience recently? What would you do? TIA

I havent been to Akershus, but I heard the food is good. 1900 though, im not too crazy about the food. But a lot of people seem to like the food there. Maybe i went on an off night? The step sisters at 1900 PF are almost always there. Im sure its happened a few times when they werent present, but thats not very common. They're HILARIOUS! Totally worth going just to interact with the step sisters. One of them tried to get my son to propose. haha. They might do that with your son. Too funny.

We loved 1900 for dinner- the food was really good! The characters were hilarious, but it felt very rushed, more so than other character meals. I've never done Akershus, but it's on my list for our next trip. My sister raved about it when she was there last week. She said the princess' spent a good amount of time with her daughter (also 3) and they really liked the food as well. I don't think you'd go wrong either way.

We haven’t been to 1900 in a while but enjoyed it quite a bit. Akershus is nice and I like the food - it’s a nice change from your standard buffet at WDW. I’d honestly lean towards 1900 though, since the character interactions seem more entertaining (we didn’t see the stepsisters when we went, but this was ten years ago so I don’t know if they were regulars at the time and just unavailable for some reason).

I think it's unusual for the stepsisters not to be at 1900 Park Fare dinner. Probably only when someone has a scheduling issue.

The truth is that neither would be ideal for a teen boy. Just pick the one that works better with your schedule. Or maybe ask him if he prefers the menu at one place over the other.

If he's very outgoing, the stepsisters might be fun. If he's introverted, he might hate it there.

Thank you! Do you know if 1900 Park Fare still has sushi?

I think your son would enjoy 1900 PF more. Both are good but it may be princess overload for him at Akershus. 1900 gives both kids so thing to enjoy

This is what I'm thinking too. He's already being a good sport about CRT, and at least that has the castle which interests him. We met the stepsisters at MNSSHP years ago, and he really enjoyed them. He also loves shrimp and sushi, so there's more at 1900 for him overall. Now, I just have to keep trying for an earlier ADR (all we could get so far is 8 PM)

Thanks everyone!

We've eaten at both and recommend doing both at least once. The character interaction at our 1900 Park Fare dinner was so much better than the character interaction at any of our Akershus breakfasts. The Stepmother and her daughters are magnificent. We enjoy the food at both. We found the atmosphere at 1900 Park Fare to be loud, chaotic, and cafeteria-like on our particular visit. The Akershus castle is very pretty inside, and we've never found the noise level to be a problem there. Akershus usually makes it into our plans each trip because we are already going to be in Epcot. We've only done dinner once at 1900 Park Fare because we've learned we don't enjoy leaving the parks to eat a meal. I would like to go back again one day, though, if we ever decide to just do resort days or leave the parks early. If they still serve the strawberry soup, your daughter might think that's a special treat. Your son would probably enjoy Park Fare more than Akershus, especially since you're already doing one princess castle meal.

We have done a character meal on arrival night every time we've gone. After a day of travel, a character meal to get into the spirit of things and then to bed early for touring the next morning is ideal for us. 1900 that first night would be great.

We have done both a couple of times. We weren't crazy about the breakfast selection at Akershus although we went primarily for the princesses because my daughter loves them. We preferred the food at 1900 park fare and the stepsisters are hilarious! 1900 is buffet so usually there is a variety to choose from.

The food at 1900 Park Fare breakfast is very good, but dinner food, not as much. Both meals have great characters. Akershus is all princesses, all the time, and they are probably not as funny as Lady Tremaine and her daughters.

My 12 year old son got grilled by Lady Tremaine on his suitability as a husband for one of her girls. It was hilarious, and he did not pass her test which made it even funnier. Not owning any land or livestock made him unsuitable for marriage. :rotfl:

If your son is a reasonably good sport, 1900 Park Fare could be a load of fun. Then again, if he’s the type who would enjoy getting his picture taken with pretty princesses, Akershus would be fine too.

Have fun whatever you decide. :)

My sons were 19 and 21 when we went. They also brought one of their buddies for that trip. They claimed they were willing to go because of our then 11 year old special needs daughter. Lady Tremaine and the step sisters were all over them. They had us all in stitches. They guy at the table next to us almost fell off his chair watching. They never, ever step out of character.
