This will be our 1st time at 1900 PF (for dinner) and I was just wondering where everyone gets their dress-up costumes for the kiddos? I have a 5 and 3 yr old that will be with us and I was thinking about trying to find something to dress them in before we go, to be sure and get super-cute pics. ;) I figure they may have dress-up you can buy AT Disney, but they will be pricey. I am assuming they don't have any dress-up stuff at the restaurant, correct? So I would need to buy or sew(which I am not great at) if they are going to wear Prince Charming and Cinderella costumes.

yes kids can dree up if they wish. I would say when we went it was a 50/50. my girls didn't feel like wearing their costum so I had brought a really fancy dress (flowergirl dress) and they wore that. they had lots of fun. The princess dresses, I got some on ebay and some at Target. I have also bought some from Disney online.

I would put it closer to 75% of kids (girls, really) who dressed up when we were there. It is funny looking back, but my daughter (probably 5 at the time) was feeling so bad for girls who did not have "costumes" but just fancy dresses. She thought if they didn't have a Cinderella costume at a Cinderella dinner they must be very sad!

We have some precious video of her and my DH dancing in the lobby of GF to the piano music.

When we took my cousin and her children, the older 2 didn't dress up, because of their ages, but the youngest was wearing a princess tee and leggings with a pink tutu, this was her choice. She did wear a costume to some of the other TS meals we went to. She even had some of the custom boutique clothes for other days.

I've got two girlies; 7 and 3 -- I'm an expert daddy on the princess dress front by now!

So to answer your question, the princess dresses that the kiddies wear are available on Disney property, at Disney stores, and on the online Disney store. There is a shop to the right of the entrance coming in from the Monorail at the GF that offers princess dresses, so you can fit this in to your Park Fare itinerary nicely. The parks authentic dresses are a little better made (and more expensive ~ $60) than other offerings Disney has. You can also find patterns and sew dresses if you are so inclined, but they are hard to do if you aren't experienced and you don't save all that much money after buying the patterns, materials and investing your time. My mother-in-law made Drizella and Anastazia costumes for my girls that were stupendous and made them the center of attention at Park Fare (the Stepsisters are the real show!) -- these had to be made 'cause you can't buy them anywhere.

Another option is to buy of Etsy (www.etsy.com) if you are not a seamstress and want something unique and potentially better quality than you'll find in the stores. The downside is that most of the offerings there are more expensive than the Disney offerings.

It is always appropriate for little girls to dress up in princess dresses at Disney. You'll see them in restaurants, in the park and on rides. I would say that most little girls (under 10 yrs.) wear dresses to princess character dinners. My kids have worn expensive dresses (purchased after Halloween at Disney store) and cheaper ones (Target) and both looked fine and were appropriate.

We have 1900 PF planned for July trip! princess: We are doing BBB then CRT for bkfst and 1900 PF for dinner! princess: DD (5) will be wearing Cindy's wedding dress costume! princess:

So is 1900 unrealistic for a family with teenagers (i.e. is it more about the characters than the food)?

I think if your teenagers like/enjoy:banana: characters, they will enjoy 1900 PF!

The buffet was one of the better that we have eaten at! And I think with teens, face characters are better as they can talk with them vs. just silly hand gestures from the Mickey characters etc. have fun!

Heck, my husband and I went there after our disney wedding for our dinner. I wore my wedding dress, he wore his tux and we got to get up and dance with prince charming and cinderella.. LOL, I'm a big kid myself!!
