19 month old?

My wife and I are taking our little one to Disneyworld this september. He'll be 19 months old. Has anyone taken there child this young and will they have a good time?

We had a blast taking our less than 2 year olds. However, my ds was much more difficult to handle waiting in even the smallest of lines and sitting in a stroller. He loves to run and move...and being held resulting in many kicks, punches, and head butts (I thought he broke my nose on IASW). He did have a lot of fun, but it wasn't as much fun for the adults. My dd, on the other hand, was really easy to handle at 21 months. She was in awe of everything and very well behaved.

We just got back from taking DS19months (this was actually his 4th trip to WDW). He LOVES most of the rides - his favorites were Pooh, TTA and IASW.

We went at a slower pace with him and learned not to force him on the characters. He warmed up to the characters in his own time and we got some great shots of him with Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

You may want to head back to the room for naps so you can have a more relaxed evening.

Have fun and just go at a slower pace so that you and your child can enjoy the time in the parks. They don't HAVE to see and do everything to have a good time.

Our son was 21 mo. when we took him last December. He loved it! Yes, the characters could be a little overwhelming but little ones will follow your lead. if you act hesitant around the characters they will too. If you are excited to see them the kids will pick up and follow suit.

DS was about 20 months when we went in September 2008. He did have a lot of fun but it was also challenging at times. We found out he did better eating TS lunches instead of dinners. He was just worn out by dinnertime and sitting in the crowded restaurants wasn't fun. We cancelled many of our dinners and changed them to lunches or breakfasts.
We spent a lot of time at the resort playground and also at the play areas in the parks. He loved just running around and the freedom of the play areas.
He was very excited to see the characters but didn't like it if they got too close to him. We did 2 character meals which were very fun.

We took our ds at 17 and 21 mos, and I thought those were both really good trips, with lots of cute moments. We have some super cute photos with him interacting with the characters. That was the age he really started to take an interest in them. The nice thing about Disney is they give families with very young children plenty to do, even if you skip all the big rides. We vacationed at WDW several times before ds was born, but it was fun to experience it again through his eyes as a very young child. If you can afford to go and it's not a "trip of a lifetime" type situation, then I would recommend it.

DD was 14mo on our last trip and she'll be 22 mos when we go in April. She's come so far and I think she's going to have a LOT more fun this time around. (Not that she had a bad time last time.) DD's 18 months now, and I think she'd have a blast if we went now.

DS was 13 months when we took him this past Jan. He had a great time! He loved all of the characters, especially at the character meals. He rode most of the rides that DS (then 4) did and wasn't scared at all. He will be even more excited at our next trip in March 2009. Now, he actually knows who the characters are and he loves Mickey, Pooh, Handy Manny, Little Einsteins, and the Power Rangers! I'm not sure if he'll still ride the rides but we can't wait to see him at the parks!
