OK, I am totally lost here. And I don't really mind looking like an idiot (good thing) so here I go.

I looked up how many points it would be for 10 nights at WLV for a one bedroom and it said 244. So then I look up how much one point is and I found that it is around $89.

So.....that equals over $19,000......

Help!

Okay, I see where you are confused! I am assuming you are not a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member? Here's how it goes...

When you join DVC, you purchase points. You get your points every year to use again and again. If you purchase 100 points this year, you would get that same 100 next year and every year until your expiration date, ours is 2042.

When you want to stay at the villas as a non-DVC member, you can call WDW and they can give you a dollar amount rate. It will not be $19,000. Well, I hope. Things can get spendy sometimes, but it shouldn't be. It would be more reasonable and in-line with other accommodation prices. As a non-DVC member you can only book a DVC resort a certain amount of time in advance. If you want to stay at Wilderness Lodge, there is also a non-villa portion that you can reserve at any time. I would call Disney Reservations and talk to them. I know it gets confusing without someone there to explain all of the different Disney technicalities to you.

The other option would be to purchase someone's points from them for this year if they aren't using all of theirs. It would not be the full $89, I'm sure, they can give you a rate that they see as fair, like $10/point or something. I know that sometimes people even put these things on eBay? Check it out. If you need help, let me know!

Like I said, if you have any more questions, or if I wasn't clear, send me a PM and I will try to do better.

I'm going to move this from the WISH board to the DVC board. I think you'll get more help over there... princess:

If you purchase points at SSR you will get those points every year until 2054 for your initial purchase price. You will also have to pay maintenance dues each year, currently around $4 per point.

Many members rent their points for one time use, about $10 per point, check the rent/trade board.

princess:

Wow!!! With that kind of money...you must think all of us "owners" are really LOADED!!! I'm a princess...but, not that much of one!!!

The only way I could afford a vacation like that is

:genie:

Where IS that Genie when you need him???!!!

Trust me, DVC is a MUCH better bargain than that!!!

The first 10 days cost $19,000.00 but all the other 10 day vacations are free (well, plus dues) until 2042... or 2052

Thank you all for your replies!

I THINK I'm beginning to actually get it. I was interested in renting points from a DVC member as a non member. But I think what I was looking at was how much it might be to become a DVC member.......I think.....

That is precisely what you were looking at.

If you pay $19K for those 244 points, every year you get those 244 points, until 2042.

DVC is a deeded lease. You own an interest in the DVC resort you purchase, which you later can sell or bequeath. You pay annual dues ($3 - $5) per point, per year, for the operation of the resort.

Renting is a good idea, and then taking the tour and talking to a DVC guide who can answer many of your questions.

Good Luck!

a breakdown (without the variables of magical beginnings, "if i put the $'s elsewhere: interest, stock appreciation/depreciation, etc or if one would need to finance the purchase):

$89 pp puchase @ SSR
x 244 points
= $21,716

$4 pp annual dues (approx)
x 244 pts
= $976 year
x 48 years (SSR ownership to 2052)
= $46,848

total cost over 48 years = $68,564
cost per year for your scenerio (1bdrm, 10 days/9 nights) =

$1428.42 or $158.71 per night
yup, $158.71 (no tax) for a gorgeous 1 bdrm villa with kitchen, LR, whirlpool, on immaculate, beautifully themed disney property.............
& that is why there are so many DVC owners (myself included ~ 3 contracts, no regrets)
:Pinkbounc :bounce:

hth
(ps ~ the points per night vary, with high/low seasons, more points on weekends ~ stay sun through thursday nights off-season & the per night cost can be MUCH less)

$4 pp annual dues (approx)

You forgot to factor in inflation. In other words if the cost of maintenance goes up 3 percent next year the dues will increase to $4.12 next year. And so on for each year.

Your $19,000 is fixed.

Maintenance dues are adjusted according to operating cost plus real estate taxes. By law DVC is nonprofit so a profit cannot be included in the dues.

Compared historically the increase in cost of staying at DVC has increased less than staying at the hotels (rack rates). If someone could help out here, I think this comparison only applies to the deluxe hotels, maybe moderate (not sure about the moderate.)

Of course the standard disclaimer. This trend may not hold true for the future. No one knows.

What are you people thinking???

Erinz it IS $89 per point to rent a DVC unit from Disney. And I'm willing to help you out right now by renting you for $72 per point. You will not believe the accomodations you get for the money!!! The service is the best on the property! Loads of special members only benefits....especially the discounts on hoppers and APs.

Sorry Erinz...I'm just teasing you.
