We will be travelling to WDW with another family of 4 and hence we will be making our dinner reservations for 7 people. We will be on the DDP but my question is, will they split the bill up separating the two dinner parties so that we can each pay for our own families bills. like drinks, appetizers and the 18% tip? Thanks

They wouldn't for us. We were a group of 11 made up of 3 families. The bill was totalled for all of us at every place we went to.

I'm surprised nobody would give you separate checks.

To the OP: Just ask for separate checks when your server first approaches your table. ESPECIALLY given that you can only order as many meals as there are Guests indicated on YOUR Key to the World, I can't see this being a problem.

We will be a party of nine in Oct and my research show your stuck with 18%

We always get separate checks and it's never a problem. Most recently 3 weeks ago. We were dining with some of our CM friends and they wanted to charge there meal to their cc and use to our room using the DDE discount. No problem. We did it again several times with some other friends we met up with. They had the DDE card and so did we. We opted for separate checks and it was not a problem. When using the DDP in October 2007 it was not a problem as we dined with friends using the DDP also and a friend using DDE. So there were actually 3 checks, one for our friends on their DDP, ours on our DDP and our friend using the DDE discount (actually our DDE card but could apply it for them since we were dining with them). Sounds confusing, but it's not. And yes, since we were using the DDE card and/or DDP discount the 18% tip was added to everyone's bill who was dining. But do tell your server at the beginning of the meal, just to make things easier.

Separate checks shouldn't be a problem.

You will be charged the auto gratuity of 18%, regardless of how you break up your checks.

Tricia1972 is totally correct. We ate at Jiko's on Thursday and there were 9 of us in our party and we had three seperate checks. They did charge the 18% gratuity to EACH of our checks.

Here is my warning: We were on the DDP, but we also ordered appetizers and bottles of wine. So, we incurred out of pocket costs for this meal. We totally did not realize that the 18% gratuity was included on our checks and we tipped in addition to what we were charged.

Now, yes it is our fault for not scrutinizing the bill when we received it. However, we do place some blame on the server for not speaking up. We feel as though he really cheated us. Does he normally get 40% gratuities???? :scared1:

Anyways, be careful with the tipping..........and have fun!

We have never had a problem with getting seperate checks at any disney restaurant. We mention it to the server upon being seated to keep things straight. The auto tip for groups is included on each check.

Tricia1972 is correct? What about me? I said it first! Just because I didn't use actual numbers in my response? Nobody ever listens to me; I don't get no respect! :teeth:

I'm sorry! I guess I am still very stuck on the tipping situation we had at Jiko's the other night.........so, i was more focused on the 18% than the seperate checks.

To all that read this thread, you heard it from KAYTIEELDR first!

Thank you! :teeth: Now I don't have to point out that I know at least as much as Tricia1972, if not more... or that I am a number fanatic who just happens to have slept poorly last night, or I'd have posted lines and lines and lines of sample figures.... :)

:lmao:

you are both right and both wonderful, k? :rotfl2:

My guess is that it's the norm to charge each bill the 18% if the total party is more than 6. However, on our last trip (3 weeks ago) we were a party of 9 with 2 seperate checks. We were always charged the 18% because we were 7 people, but my parents were sometimes charged the 18% when they ate with us and sometimes it wasn't added even though I made all reservations the same way with all of us under my name. I know at least one other person has reported having the same experience as me so I'm guessing the servers have the option not to add on the 18%.

So if your on the DDP do they automatically charge you the 18% as in out of pocket? That would be sucky! :crazy2: Wish they would get their poop in a group on tipping! LOL

If you are with a total party of 5 or less there is no automatic gratuity. They just leave a space to write in your tip or you can leave cash. Where we found the inconsistency was when my parents (bill with 2 dinners) dined with our family of 7 (8 including the baby). Sometimes their tip was automatic and sometimes it wasn't. Ours was always added because we were over 6 people. It's actually far less stressful once you're there. I was so convinced it was going to cause a headache before we went, but once we were there we just charged the tip to the room key (something I wasn't planning on doing) and it was all very easy.
