I have read several posts about this, but no one has answered a question I have been thinking about. We have a party of 11. I know the tip will be added in, but how?
My family of 5 is on one card (DDP), my sister's group of 4 on one card, and then my parents, 2, on their card.
Will we be lumped together as a group and the 18% be on the group total? OR will each of us be charged 18% on just our family total?
:confused3

I assume that you will be charged on your family's total. I would make sure that the server does "separate checks" so the tip is distributed correctly.

You'll be assessed the automatic gratuity based solely on your party size.

Each group's check will probably have its own gratuity added. But they will not consider you separate parties if you are at the same table on the same ADR.

Thanks for making my comment clearer. I didn't men to suggest that they would be separate parties (5, 4, & 2) for gratuity purposes. I assume that they would be considered 11 people, but that each separate party's check would have the 18% added onto what they ordered.

when I was making my ADR's for my family of 5 and our friends party of 4 they told me that if I would make them together that they will charge me 18% but if i split them up then we could tip whatever. We are on the DP. I guess everything that I read said that it is 18% regaurdless:confused3

I'm confused and don't understand the OP.

Regardless of how the 18% is figured out, as a group or as individual parties.
It will still be the same amount.

Each family's 18% will be the same as all 11 of you combined.

I think what the OP is asking is not whether the total tip amount will be impacted, but whether or not he'll have to do the math in his head to figure out what each family owes (one lump sum or split up by family).

When we were on DDP last fall, the bill was presented several ways already.

I don't think anyone can truly positively answer the OP's question until 2008 -except for those who actually work in that the department at Disney - but my guess is that they will give you your tip individually calulated by party.

They will have to divide your meal credits by party in order to assess how many credits each family unit used, so they will almost certainly do the same for the tip, IMO.
