18-200mm lenses

I have it and use it almost exclusively. It's great for travelling, especially at WDW. Like others said, it's slow, so it's not great in low light. That's why I got a 50mm 1.4. But you won't be sorry if you get it.

DisneySuiteFreak - Mine didn't creep for while but now it does. Could be that yours is still new enough not to.

Oh that's sad! :( I wonder why it does that? Does the Nikon manufacturer warrantee cover that? Is there any way to fix it? How far out does yours creep? Is it enough to be a huge pain or that you'd have to be worried about banging the lens when carrying it around?:headache:

Interesting that you would ask. My is worse today than when I got it. Nikon's official response is that it was designed that way. Go to Nikon's knowledge base and do a search on zoom creep.

I was told that some is expected with that lens but I could send in an have it adjusted? Since nikon's lenses have a 5 yr warranty, I may do it after my cruise in September. I have heard the wrist band trick works very well.

I find that I am carrying it around and realize that it has extended out.

I have it and love it!!!Not tight or creepy. It's been a great walking around lens for WDW.
If they made it 2.8? ahhh, perfection plus:cloud9:

I am very much interested in this lens and I was wondering if any of you guys thought that any of the rental places would have it in early nov.

How has that lens worked out for you? I was looking at it on B&H and it got some pretty good reviews.

I've been very happy with this lens. my pictures always come out clear and sharp. to me, it is the perfect walk around lens. the only thing I don't like about it is to me it seems really heavy. I like that the lens comes with a hood too.

Well, one strike I can see against it is it's not USM focusing. Also, I'll bet the barrel rotates during focusing, which makes using a polarizing filter difficult.

Other than that, it would make a great walkaround lens.

As for rental sites, I have used rentglass.com and borrowlenses.com

I have found both to be very pleasant to deal with, and can recommend them without reservation.

Regards,

Boris

Those sites seem to have pretty good prices. I was wondering if there is a period of time that a lens has to be out to be able to rent. I could just as easily email or call them but I get insights here that I dont think that I would if I were to call.

What camera body do you use?

What camera body do you use?

I used it on my Rebel XT, then the 40D while I had it, and I just got the XSI a few days ago, but I haven't tried it on the XSI yet.

I have been perfectly happy with this lens (but I'm no pro) and am always happy with the pictures it takes. I sold off a Canon 28-135 IS lens for this lens and have no regrets. other than it being heavy. :)

So...I bit the bullet and bought the 18-200mm VR after hearing and reading such good reviews about it as a "walk around" lens. Got it from a local camera store as a "DEMO" for $549 which was even more exciting :goodvibes.

I took the new lens out for a test drive today (as well as using the D60 for the first time outdoors since the weather has been cruddy) and am THRILLED. I am definitely still in the market for the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 but am happy that I got this one first.

Here are some pix from my first outdoor experiences with a dSLR. Nothing awe inspiring or captivating, just pictures from apple-picking, a walk around our neighborhood and a local carnival...but still, considering it was my first time really putting the camera to use, my expectations were far exceeded.

Here they are (a lot, sorry!!!)

Input, opinions and ways to improve would be greatly appreciated! :thumbsup2

Very nice! Congratulations on your new camera!

My favorites are the artist, the church, and the ferris wheel.

Thank you! I've been having a blast learning so far. Unfortunately I am still so excited just to have something other than a point and shoot I haven't actually taken the time to read the whole manual yet. I've more been using trial and error through shooting.

The artist was great, she was painting a General Grubb from the Civil War's house on the river (below is what the real house looked like) and it was so good I had to ask her if she sells them, which she does. Maybe that'll be my next purchase!

Very nice pictures. I love that you captured what most people just "see" and don't appreciate.
